SHOWDOWN: 2011 BMW 1M vs. 2012 Audi TT RS vs. Infiniti IPL G Coupe, Is The 1M Good Enough?
Well, well, well. It looks like BMW may have sent another one out of the park with the new 1M.

At least that's what we can conclude after reading the most recent issue of Car and Driver, which pits the 1M up against the Infiniti IPL G Coupe and Audi TT RS. You know what they say about "there's a seat for every ass," but ultimately, we want the best. Period. Yeah, that's redundant.

Rather than wait for the magazine to hit newsstands, if it isn't out already, make sure to click "Read Article" and read the full story for yourself. It looks like the 1M didn't have that much competition since it placed this way:

1) BMW 1M - 207 points

2) Audi TT RS - 193 points

3) Infiniti IPL G Coupe - 180 points

Pick up May's issue for road tests on both.
1M 0-60 4.5;1/4 13.0; .97 g.;70-0 159'
Boss 302 4.3;12.8;.9 g; 160'

1M smoked Inifiniti IPL G37 and Audi TT RS...

The TT-RS looks to be the performance champ of the group but at a higher price. That launch control is quite effective.

TT RS Stateside is the news here.

@sdcarguy

TT RS coming to the U.S. market has been known for a while now.

Okay,

I would like to see more test between the Audi RS and BMW 1M. There is only 20 lbs. different between the two cars and they both have the same amount of horse power but the BMW 1M had more torque. But the Audi TT RS does 0-60 in 3.6s and the BMW 1M did in 4.5s? I find that hard to belief.

All wheel drive and launch control help with the 0-60, but the fact that the engine is likely underrated helps as well.

The tt-rs wont be available wit DSG in the states. With a rolling start the 1m was quicker. The 1M also stopped the shortest, cleared the slalom over 2mph quicker, and its road-holding was close to 1g(the highest of the group). And was praised for being the easiest to live with in the real world. A well deserved victory for BMW's smallest M...and it was 16K less than the 2nd place car!!!

So the TT RS is faster 0-60 than an Audi R8 V8? So what exactly were they smoking when they tested it?

The way R8's are stacking up like firewood at local dealers here in NJ, I think Audi better refresh the R8 real soon. I've seen the same R8 cabs sitting on showroom floors for months now.

It's also faster than the v10 R8 apparently, forgot to mention that lol.

The TT is not even in the same class to make an interior room comparison. The TT is only meant to be a daily driver or weekend fun car, not a hauler. The 1M is more sedan and has more room.

As far as overall size and performance I can accept the results. For styling and performance, I still take the TT. Next time I need to race someone on the on/off ramp at 80 mph I will think about the amount of g's I need to pull. Other than that, the remaining 99.99999999% of the time I don't need maximum lateral grip the TT RS is MORE than enough to trump almost any car.

LOL, and if the results were the other way around I am sure you would say acceleration was not important, and lateral grip was more so. You and Viso are a joke .

The TT was only faster in acceleration. The 1M was superior in every other dyanmic category...for 16K less!!! The RS3 is in trouble..

Interesting comparison. It appears that the BMW pulled away in points on refinement, engine flexibility,a better back seat. In the performance and handling area the Bimmer was slightly ahead of the Audi but they were very close.Thing is the rear leg room in the Bimmer is worse then the Audi. It's just that because the roof does not slope down that it has better head room. Anyway I thing I'd still take the Audi as rear room is not a concern of mine.

Would take the G or the TT. The 1 just looks ackward and not attractive.

The TT looks good. I could be wrong once it gets here and drive it but it is way to much for what it is. The Nissan "Infinti" is just wrong on a lot of levels. Th NISMO parts, c'mon man.

The 1M is cool. That car is just dying for the BMW Performance Seats but they are unavailable in the US legally. And too expensive and difficult to import, tried to as a client wanted some. And just view the 1M as a two-seater. With some added software and hardware bits that tool becomes much more sharper.

Yet another stupid C/D test, which G shouldn't be included to start with. That said, it sent a message to Infiniti- you better start offer FI engine and a lighter, 2 seats, Z variance.

A 135 matches the 1M's 0-60. The Z4 35is beats it. Does anyone see something wrong here? I dont even like Audi yet the TT-RS is hands down the winner. If Infinity wants to play with the big boys they need to stop throwing on NISMO parts and calling it a package or change the name of that car. Make the car stock with these parts. Put some effort. They are getting lazy while competitors are moving ahead.

@pac4evr. Your scientific observation about R8s in dealer lots fails the "truth" test. Keeping you honest, if you look at the sales numbers so far for the R8 in the US, sales are ahead of last year and month to month higher. You can check AN for this. Your childish attemp to make Audi look bad actually makes you look foolish.

The R8 v10 is doing the 1/4 mile in 12.1 seconds @ 122mph vs 12.1 @ 113mph. So no, the TT is not faster than the R8, not even close.
