Want A $1,000 Gift Card? Test Drive A Jaguar Then BUY Its Competitor
If you're in based out of Los Angeles and in the market for a luxury vehicle, we have an interesting bit of news -- some would say a shameless publicity stunt -- for you. Galpin Jaguar is giving $1,000 gift cards to consumers who test drive a new Jaguar and go with a competitor.

According to USA Today "'If a customer buys or leases an eligible comparably equipped Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Lexus or Porsche within 10 days after a new Jaguar test drive at Galpin, they will receive an American Express Gift Card valued at $1,000,' the dealer says."

Although it seems pretty convincing, the wording "an eligible comparably equipped..." sort of has me wondering: what is Galpin's definition of comparably equipped and which vehicles are eligible? Remember, you have to play by their rules.

Here's why I am so skeptical of what Galpin is doing: USA Today writes that no one has received a gift card thus far, even though it has been going on for a couple of weeks.

And I know that none of Jaguar's products are that good.

Reminds me of this Autospies article from earlier this year: http://www.autospies.com/news/WHY-Is-This-Jaguar-With-Only-3k-Miles-On-A-Lexus-Dealer-s-Showroom-Floor-61960/

I wonder what the owner of that XJ would have to say about this promotion.

I have seen this "promotion" up close before. When I got my first sales job, it was at a Jaguar/Lotus dealer. The conquest rate for the brand is basically none and they knew that and still is close to nil. So the GM came up with a deal that if someone just came in driving an Audi, BMW, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz or Toyota "Lexus" and drove a new Jaguar they would donate $500 to the charity of your choice. Nobody did for the two weeks it was on offer. This is much better, however the stipulations are pretty steep for them to give up G in Amex GC.

Actually saw two Jaguars this past weekend on the highway. Which is strange to see them on the road as all of them are sitting at dealer lots. They are nice cars, they just have serious image problems as well as sketchy past as far as reliability and they still do. Nice rides, the XK sound really good to my ear.
