FORTUNE: BMW No. 1 Most Admired Automotive Company
CNN Money has posted FORTUNE's list of the world's most admired companies. The general non-industry specific list is compiled from a survey of businesspeople from all industries. The industry-specific list (i.e. Motor Vehicles category) is derived from a survey of each specific industry, according to peer companies.

BMW tops the Motor Vehicles sector and was voted as the No. 1 Most Admired company by their automotive industry peers. Volkswagen group was No. 2 and Daimler No. 3. In terms of global companies overall, BMW ranked No. 19. Apple was No. 1.

BTW Nonofyobus-

"The industry-specific list (i.e. Motor Vehicles category) is derived from a survey of each specific industry, ACCORDING TO PEER COMPANIES."

A well run business is a well run business. It transcends specific industry classifications, and can be recognized by other business professionals who run corporations on a global scale.

or you can just be ignorant

Many of them are american companies. CNN thinks US = World again???? This is the report for Americans only, not for the people in the world.

Im not surprised BMW was the only car company in the top 25, so many car manufactures try to copy them.

Huh? Everybody copies BMW? Are you serious? Every automotive brand does their own thing because they have customers that want a specific experience.

The only BMW that might be "copied" is the 3 series, and that's only because the magazine BMW and Driver, whoops, I meant Car and Driver, has elevated the 3er to a god-like status just because of "handling". And even in this class I'd say the only brands who try to really target the 3er are Infiniti and Audi.

BMW is so overrated. I had a 325i ten years ago and I didn't understand what the fuzz was all about. Sure, they drive nicely but that's about it.

To be copied, they must have invented something.
And I have no knowleage of BMW inventing anything.

@bmwcs:

You missed the famous "Brake Energy Regeneration System", fanboy! LOL!

Really, I havent seen so many false claims at one place for a long time.
Now, on you childish claims:

-Fist mass produced Magnesium crank case
Porsche used magnesium engines since 1973.

-carbon fiber reinforced plastic
What? BMW invented CFRP? How lame is it to claim that?

-I-drive
What's this again? An interface no one cares about. Great invention!

-the sports sedans
..you mean like the Alfa Romeo 1900 from 1950? LOL!

1954 - BMW debuts Germany's first all aluminum V8 engine in the 502
Oh, really? The question is what did BMW invent, not what BMW copies from elsehere.

1986 - First automaker to have ABS standard across the range
Again, what did BMW invent, not what BMW copies from elsehere.

1996 - 5 Series is the first production car to have a front and rear suspension made of light alloy
Really? No Porsche? No Ferrarri before that?

- BMW build the first Hydrogen vehicle in the world (E38 - 750iL) 2001
Using low efficient ICE with very low energy dense fuel is plain stupid. What happened to the project anyway?
Besides there already was the 1999 Honda FCX using hydrogen fuel cell.

- First electric parking brake in the world (E65/E66) 2002
Nope, unless 2001 Renault Vel Satis is produced by BMW which I doubt.

- First drive-bi-wire throttle - EML (E32 750iL) 1988
Wow! Finally a true world first by BMW!

- First head airbags in the world (E38) 1997
What do you mean by head airbag?

- First AC HID headlights in the word (E32) 1991
Wow! Another one true world first by BMW!

2000 - BMW launches patented Valvetronic (fully variable valve control system)
..Which is just a differently packed copy of the 1998 VVTL-i system from Toyota.

- The 750hL is one of the world's first liquid hydrogen powered cars
Again, how about the 1999 Honda FCX?

2002 - BMW is the world's first automaker with a fuel cell for electrical power
For a third time, how about the 1999 Honda FCX.

2005 - BMW leads the industry in eco-friendly production methods
According to who? BMW themselves? LOL!

- The BMW H2R breaks 9 world records for hydrogen powered cars
And, what exactly is the invention here? Using ICE fuelled by hydrogen, again? LOL!

BMW is the first German automaker to sell a Super Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle
First German doesnt mean worlds first, fanboy.

World first pedestrian recognition system
Even before the 2002 Lexus LX470 system? Don't think so.

And the soon to be worlds first mass produced carbon fiber chassis.
Let them make it more "mass" then the Porsche Carrera GT first. And then again, pioneering is not when you copy something from someone else and put it in mass production. It is just copying.

Well we answered your question. BMW has invented and introduced inovations whether they are technological, world first, or industry firsts. That much can not be denyed. Which is why they are copied, and admireed in the industry.

@SportyTurbo:

Yes. Valvetronic copies the concept of VVTL-i of controlling the ammount of air/fuel mixture that enters the cylinders by varying the lift of the intake valves.
Even though both systems serve different purposes - VVTL-i is used to increase high end torque, while Valvetronic is used for better fuel economy, the operation principle is the same.

Oh, and elimination of the throttle is a marketing gimmick, since Valvetronic engines still have throttle valves.

Sorry, but those innovations are just laughable for a company that pretends to be the "most innovative", "most copied" and now "most admired".

"Sorry, but those innovations are just laughable for a company that pretends to be the "most innovative", "most copied" and now "most admired". "

LOL, whos pretending??? BMW did not give themself this title. It was voted on by intdustry peers.Your a joke. It no fluke BMW win so many awards for their engines, and manufacturing/business processes compared to their competitors. No one said they were the "most" inovative, or "most" copied. You add words and distort the whole argument, into something irrelevent. Facts are Facts, doesnt matter whether you think they are laughable or not. Their Idustry peers dont thinks so...and for some reason I have a feeling they are MUCH MORE CREDIBLE than you....so keep hating.

"Even though both systems serve different purposes.." your logic is flawed

If it serves a different purpose its a unique system with a unique innovation, valvetronic is infitly variable where the toyota system is not..

You havent touched on BMW M's turbo patent that all but reduces turbo lag by syncing the turbo pulses...Is that laughable too? In an era where turbo engines will dominate the market..

Also what company do you feel is the "most" inovative, and copied care to share?

I have no time for childish arguments, so let me get back on topic:

Electronic throttle control and HID light aside, what else other many car companies have copied?

Oh and by the way, how exactly the super-duper innovative comprehensive manifold (patented) is different from two twin-scroll manifolds put together? Or the fact that it combines cyllinders from the different banks of a V8 is enough to make it great innovation?
