Next MINI to launch in Paris

BMW is adding the finishing touches to its next Mini, which will début at the Paris Motor Show later this year. Mini enthusiasts should be pleased to learn that the newcomer’s styling appears to closely resemble that of the popular current version.

Taking its cue from Porsche's evolutionary approach to the design of the iconic 911 series, BMW AG said it would “follow the Zuffenhausen-based manufacturer's example” and ensure that the next generation Mini remains true to its current concept.

I see nothing wrong with it. I compact car that is actually fun to drive. Not some econo compact with no frills what-so-ever...Japan is watching...lol. I just hope that BMW can keep the price point at the same level.

i think the cuurent generation of mini looks better than this concept....but they would have to take all those camouflage off the car before any 1 can make any comparisons

I think the headlights are too far up and its basically a longger version of the current mini. Still has lots of appeal. The japanese have similarly sized cars but a Mini is a Mini.

For those who say this is just a longer version of the current MINI, you are wrong.

The photo above is of the MINI Traveller concept, basically the 2007 MINI Cooper, but as an Estate, with obvious concept car details that won't make production.

One of the reasons the MINI is getting such a big refresh, apart from the obvious fresh appeal it will create, is because of the new laws governing pedestrian safety. The current MINI has the windscreen wiper arms basically exposed, but the new rules mean that, like this concept, the wipers will have to be recessed behind the bonnet line.

Also, what the MINI has over its Japanese "rivals" is razor-sharp handling and a slick chassis. Also, it has oodles of character and personality, and performance versions too.
