A Conservative Minimalist And A Wild Child Go Toe-To-Toe, Can The A1 Unsettle The MINI Cooper?

Now you have to admit, if the all-new Audi A1 can unseat the MINI Cooper, it is kind of an accomplishment. That's because the MINI is largely considered a great car, even though it rides harshly and is getting older now.

However, I will still ask: is it really an accomplishment?

On second thought, yes. That's because lately everyone's been ragging on Audi being bland and not interesting. Au contraire, Pierre. If the A1 can beat the VERY charismatic Cooper there's gotta be something interesting to this vehicle.

With that said, I want to know: am I onto something or is the A1's recent victory not all that important?

First of all, we do not get the A1 here is the States which is a shame. Also, we the upcoming S1 will really be the A1 to own.

Centrally located gauges are an automatic fail to me. Regardless of design, performance, price, etc. If I have to look to the middle of my car for feedback, game over.

Does Audi know how to create a small car and have fun doing it? Or do they see it as an exercise in de-contenting their larger, more expensive cars? Last time I checked, with the A3, it was the later.

Anyway, the GTI owns this segment for a drivers car.
