Stunning footage of the Audi R8 super-coupe on the Nurburgring race track in Germany

Audi has confirmed production of the R8 super-coupe, which will go on sale in spring 2007. Here's the real thing out on the world’s most challenging race-track: the Nurburgring in Germany.

The R8 is derived from the Le Mans Quattro concept car seen at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2003; it takes the name of Audi's Le Mans car to emphasis its performance potential. Though some of the technologies used in the car, such as the FSI direct fuel injection system, were developed in the R8 racer, the production R8 is more closely related to the road-going Lamborghini Gallardo.

This will be an amazing car. Even if it has the RS4's 420 hp engine at first. The RS4 does 0-60 in 4.3 seconds. The R8 which will weight about 400-500 pounds lighter. Will probably do 0-60 in 3.8-3.9 seconds. The V10 5.2 liter will make 520 hp and come out a year after the 4.2 liter version does. If you are wondering, the Galardo will get a boost to 550 hp. BTW, really nice sound, looks really agressive, great cornering. Also, reportedly the driver was Audi's own race car driver Tom Kristensen, the car is a manual, but that is why it sounds like a DSG, which will probably be available.

According to Audi's statistics on the RS4, it goes from 0-60 in 4.8 seconds, not 4.3, the same as a Carrera S. This means that the Cadillac's CTS-V is still faster than Audi's S versions of the A4.

Or did you not see my picture. Look above your own post. You will se that the RS4 goes 0-60 in FOUR POINT THREE SECONDS. Audi severely underrates their times, especially for high performance vehicles.

The CTS-V has 400 hp and 395 lb-ft of torque, hits 60 in 4.6 seconds, completes a 1/4 mile in 13.1 seconds, and hits a top speed of 163 mph, so its still the fastest in its class.

Why would Audi want to underrate their times, wouldnt they want to exagerrate times so that they would seem to be the fastest and not the slowest. A Porsche Carrera S hits 60 in 4.8 seconds, how could the Carrera 4S hit 60 in 4.1 seconds.

Hey even Edmunds got a time of 0-60 in 4.7 for the RS4. All German companies underestimate their times. That way there is no scandal of times, if someone goes a little slow. They give themselves a gap of security. Unlike Cadillac, Cadillac quoted a time of 4.6 for its CTSv, something that car magazines have yet to achieve. Also, sometimes the times that you see are sometimes European times, which are actuall for 0-62.5. Also the faster times in the magazine are achieved on grippy drag strips. The officially quoted times are doable on your street.

RS4 is faster than the CTS V: 4.3, 12.8 and 155 (175.2 with a delimeter)

Give me a link to a test that has the CTSv go 0-60 in 4.6.

You are allmost right. I am not sure, but Road and Track did put in 190 pounds of extra weight (Driver, and test equipment) But overall you are right. German companies claim conservatice times. But, US companies generally claim quicker or allmost exaggerated times. BTW oodi, I think the R8 will perform at least as well, if not better than the M6.

The R8 will probably be under 100k.

I love it!! Hope it comes in a polka dot theme. Why do all these automakers test at the Nurburgring? It kinda ruins the fun of spy shooting.

The RS4 does 0-60 in 4.3. Only TWO TENTHS slower than the M6. The RS4 weights about the same as the M6. The R8 will be abotu 400-500 pounds lighter. I think the R8 will be able to do 0-60 in 3.7-3.8 second range. If that does not convince that it will be better than any BMW, then, it will also come out with the 5.2 liter V10 with 520 hp a year or so after the 4.2 liter version comes out. Did you even watch the video, or look at the data panel?

Did you read what I read. The RS4 is almost as fast as the M6. On the race track as well.

The RS4 is just as fast on the ring as the M6, with 400-500 pounds less mass, the R8 will destroy the M6.

The R8 will be better than anything that BMW has currently. Both in performance and design.

You must not be very smart. This will be under 100k, about the price of the M6, but better, which is about 75,000 cheaper than the Gallardo, and about 30,000 cheaper than the 911 Turbo. You are wrong once again, are you the riencarnation of Sunny?

It might be more expensive, but I think it would be perfect at the 100k range.

Z6 will be the BMW's answer to R8,followed by Lexus with LF-A,then MB with Mclaren P8.
Calm down Audi Fans.

R8 is nice, but y all that arguments and fights u Audi guys.U always destroy a good blog,by degrading others and praising your Audi so much.

Ok Audi is fine but so do the BMW or MB.
Refrain from this habbit.Audi is not only the brand in the world who is producing new or succesful models.be RELAXED.

And BayEmVeh i think u mean the new Z6.

Here is the correct info on the BMW Z6.

BMW is planning to launch a range of sports coupe and roadster models to take on the competition in the segment.

First in line will be the Z6,a cut-price version of the mega-buck Z8.The mechanicals will probably be borrowed from the current M5 and M6 but it will weigh less and will also get new 6-7 speed transmissions.

This big gun will take down R8 in the future and will be R8's ultimate competitor.

So weight for it intro sometime in the late 2007 to early 2008.

Meanwhile, rumors of at least one Z6 being in existence at BMW HQ in Munich is keeping AUTO SPIES on their toes.
