And You Thought The Lexus LFA Was Expensive, AND This Is A Toyota!
Oh-kay, so if you know anything about autos you've most definitely heard of the Lexus LFA. It's the nearly $400,000 Lexus that everyone loves to hate but sounds like a Formula 1 car. But as much as many people will say Toyota can't build a sports car, think again.

That's because they did build the 2000GT in the 1960s. And just look at her in this eBay auction. What a beaut!

Here's the thing though, they are incredibly rare. According to the seller only 62 came to the states out of the 351 global production. Supposedly only 40 are known to exist.

I guess that would explain the $650,000 Buy It Now price!

...And you thought the Lexus LFA sounded good:

Here is an unprecedented opportunity to acquire a 1-owner, low mileage mint example of an ultra-rare U.S. delivery 1967 Toyota 2000GT.

Of the 351 cars made, only 84 were left hand drive, of which only 62 came into the U.S.A. between 1967-70. Today less than 40 of those are known to still exist, making this one of the rarest collector vehicles in the world.

All 2000GT's were handbuilt by Yamaha, and today are universally regarded as being the first Japanese "Supercar". Fitted with a 2 liter, twin cam six cylinder engine with 3 twin-choke carburetors and a 5-speed transmission the GT 'redlines' at 7000rpm, producing speeds of 70 mph in 2nd; 100 in 3rd; and just below 140 mph in top end...

The Toyota "Lexus" LFA is expensive. This is cool though. One of only 62 imported! Never was a 'supercar" though. And the price is ridiculous. But someone may want to add it to their collection.

My favorite car of all time. Never seen prices this high tho. Last I heard they were under 200,000. I guess as they get rarer and rarer....

Trivia: This car was designed by a German who offered to sell the design to Datsun. Datsun refused but Toyota bought the design from this guy. He also designed the BMW 507 Roadster.

Question: Who was he?

Nissan and Toyota each planned to offer a luxury GT. Nissan teamed with motorcycle and piano firm Yamaha to develop a car, codenamed A550X, styled by German-American Albrecht Goertz (whose design credits include the BMW 507). Friction between the companies doomed that project in late 1964. Toyota launched its project 280A in-house, with a design penned by Satoru Nozaki. But when the jilted Yamaha invited Toyota to see its finished A550X prototype, the two companies agreed to collaborate on the development and production of Nozaki's design.

@veyron1001 and 0to60,

it is you two who don't have comment sense not me. How it is an investment? Do you guys believe everything you read and see on TV and Radio? LMAO....!

The way I see it we increasing fuel cost, government at least in Europe are banning fossil fuel and more hybrid , electric and hydrogen vehicles are coming out. Cars like this one and that one that use fossil fuel will be extinct within the next 50 or 100 years.
