Ford tries to boost sales with new model introductions

Ford's new models include the sleek, five-passenger Edge crossover vehicle, to be built at the firm's Oakville plant, and a Lincoln version called the MKX. The Edge is due in showrooms in November.

The company also reworked its Expedition SUV and added an extra-long model with more storage capacity, plus Lincoln counterparts, the Navigator and Navigator L.

Six-Ten years ago this would have been exciting, but now Ford's main vehicles (except the F150) no longer hold the dominant sales positions they used to.

All this intro tells me is what's likely to be waiting the next time I rent from Hertz.

I think Ford has their objectives wrong. They seem to be neglecting some models. Like the Ranger. When was that last redone?.... IT WAS 1993! Yes, I know it was slightly changed at some point, but it's the same. And what about the Econoline/E-Series?? It was last re-designed in 1992! Again, yes I know they put new headlights on it a few years ago, but that was nothing. How about the Crown Victoria? Major re-design=1992. Minor refresh=1998, and a new suspension in 2003. And even the hot-selling Escape is six years old!(2001).

head: The company is negligent in so many ways I can hardly stand it! Another orphan is the Focus. Why does America not merit the current Euro-version of that car? The biggest car market and they tweak the bumper of their main automobile. And the Taurus? Years ago they actually sold those to private buyers; Now, just to rental fleets.

No wonder the frugal flock to foreign cars. Ford comes out with preposterous 'sport' trucks, two words that should be prohibited by law from appearing together, and let the entire mid-section of the market learn Japanese. Pinheads... utter pinheads.

"Another orphan is the Focus."

and even worse, when they "freshened" it, they stripped it of its distinctive look.

it looks as bland as all the other ford sedans.

maybe ford thot they'd do a "same sausage, different lengths" thing like bmw. all they succeeded in doing was "same boredom, different strengths!" ;)

I think it looks good from the B-Pillar forward. The back end is too conservative and has been done to death by GM. Clear taillights are OUT. LED taillights are IN.

well said jpr18! Another point I would include is...Has ford noticed the price of gas?I would asume most buyers of crossover cars would want better gas mielage than a suv!Otherwise they would buy an suv.I would be interested in it if it was great on gas! That is one thing ford isn't known for.All that vehicle and it only carries 5 passengers? What about a foldable rear seats like the dodge minivan! Another car desighned by accountants. Most people interested in such a large vehicle would have families/kids/friends..., so where are they going to put them all? In the other car that will fit them all! Why doesn't ford make a sporty Baja car/truck the size of a porche with big tires capable of being competitive in the baja 1000? I would want one!
