Lexus Teases The Future With 2011 LF-Gh Concept - But Is Good Looks Enough To Save The Brand?

Lexus Teases The Future With 2011 LF-Gh Concept - But Is Good Looks Enough To Save The Brand?
Lexus today announced that the LF-Gh hybrid concept will make its world debut at the 2011 New York International Auto Show.

The LF-Gh, which stands for Lexus Future Grand Touring Hybrid, sets out to redefine the premium grand touring sedan. Through this exercise, the definition of L-Finesse, the marque's design philosophy since 2001, has been refined and evolved to include a bolder, more distinct projection of what a luxury car could become in a modern world. The result is the LF-Gh concept, which conveys original thoughts and ideas that may migrate to future Lexus vehicles on a global scale.

The new concept will be on display in the Lexus exhibit at the New York International Auto Show from April 20May 1, 2011.

What do you mean "save the brand?" Does number 1 in luxury sales in 2010 mean anything?

Something like "save the GS" would be more fitting since it has been a slow seller for a few years now

Remember Turbo, the vast majority of us deboost you here not because we don't agree with you, but because we just don't like you and your hating, hypocritical ways.

Its official, Sporty has lost it. Why don't the Admen’s' deal with these bad eggs here? I will tell you why; because the Adman’s themselves are bad eggs. These Adman’s breed hate "Not all of them" but people like Sporty exploit it.

I know pretty harsh~

Turbo, if I believed in hell I guess your bible quotes would matter to me, but I don't spend my time thinking about how to avoid someone else's reality. Just remember one thing, what would Jesus do? Because if you don't follow his path, then you can't consider yourself to be Christian. We all know that.

Oh, my, my, oo9, "save the brand"? Does anyone, besides you, perceive Lexus as being on the bring of demise?

From the pictures above I like what I see from the front and the rear taillights look kind of weird with that gap on the bottom side. I have to see the whole car before I make proper judgement.

FYI, just ignore agent009, a lot of members up here don't like him and how cheesy his post title regarding Toyota and Lexus.

I'm not a Lexus fan by any stretch, but even I hope the GS doesn't look anything like those teaser photos. Ideally the point of teaser photos is they're exciting, they show off something cool and special that makes people want to see the rest of the car. But these are hideous. So if these are the "get me excited" photos, then I am truly frightened for what kind of monstrosity the rest of the car is.

I think the current Lexus GS350/GS450 look really good but lack the sporty performance of it rivals in this segment.

Its official, all car companies don't want to be BMW anymore. They want to be Audi.

I guarantee that that front grill will NOT happen in the new GS, no way in hell~

Lexus isn't the world wide leader but Toyota is. Mercedes and the rest of the European brands make stripped down models for their market and are priced like Toyotas. I wouldn't expect you to know that since your twelve. Sporty turbo

For a guy calling himself "know it all", you know absolutely nothing.

There isn't a single Mercedes in Europe priced in Toyota territory. Furthermore those "stripper models" you refer to are well equipped with standard features that people actually use.

Oh, and people in Europe like to customize or individualize their luxury car with features that they want and will use. You can't do that on any Lexus. No individuality, just like the bland Lexus brand. No matter what they do in Europe, the lack of brand history and heritage will always make most people question the reason why they should buy a tarted up Toyota.

how much does a B class Mercedes cost? would you say it's the same as a Rav4 in the UK?

Really !!

Drove a Manual VW Golf TDI Bluemotion Rental Today for over 450 miles.

Vehicle had:
* Front/Rear Parktronics
* Auto Headlamps/Windshield Wipers
* Start/Stop Tech
* 4 Electric Windows with Auto Wind Up/Down with Remote FOB
* 6CD Changer with Touch Screen/ DAB Radio/ Bluetooth Phone Connectivity/ Aux Input.
* Auto Hill Hold.

This is almost base spec on the TDI Model. i think the only options were Front/Rear Parktronics.

That was a VW Golf with those options as a almost a base model, i somehow doubt that Audi, MB or BMW will offer Manual Rear windows in any vehicle they manufacture in Europe since 2005.

Then again. I might be wrong.

I remember renting a Mercedes B-Class last year in Belgium and it had Manual Rear Windows.

WimmerWimmer - 4/5/2011 8:50:52 PM

No Audi, BMW or MB is available with roll-up windows except the MB A/B-Class and that only on the rear doors. Big deal. My 118i has electric windows in the rear and I've never operated them. Hell, the few times I had passengers back there they never had a reason to operate the windows. In the winters I have my heater on and in the summers I use my A/C. That car would be better off if my rear windows were manually operate. Less complex and less weight.

And please tell me what's wrong with smaller, more efficient engines? Just because someone can afford a luxury car doesn't mean they want something overpowered and inefficient. Many wealthy people can afford all the gasoline and diesel they want, but they still want a fuel-efficient car. They still want to travel as far as possible without having to pull up at every gas station. I could care less about some overpowered V8 Lexus GS430 when an MB E220 CDI gets me from A to B in the same amount of time but with far less costs.

Stop trying to make Lexus sound like some sort of special brand. They're not taken seriously here in Europe. When someone here wants a luxury car they want the badge to stand for something. The Lexus badge in Europe means absolutely nothing. No history, no heritage, no prestige, no motorsport involvement - nothing. Just a bunch of tarted up Toyotas with inefficient engines. There are far better and more appealing choices out there and the sales in Europe reflect that. People are willing to pay more for a brand that creates an emotional connection. Lexus + emotion don't even belong in the same sentence.

I sold German cars for 11 years and I used to say all the same crap your brain washed with. Only german cars have soul and heritage. When that crap is always braking down and cost a fortune to service and repair and initial cost is over priced for what you get,(german unions)you can stick that heritage crap where the sun doesn't shine. I get more care quietier smoother better quality materials better service and lower cost of ownership. That's why Lexus passed the germans in only 10 years in the US.

Yes, that automatically means that German cars will always be superior no matter what. It's not like 10 or 15 years ago they lost any...

passed the germans in what? if passed means selling high volume of tarted up camrys (ES)and harriers (RX).... that's 75% of the brand. why is that impressive? interesting how lexus is only successful in the american market where older consumers love floaty big cars that have no semblance of feeling....

It's at the end of it's product cycle and instead of giving 7 to 8 thousand dollar rebates like the E-class and 5-series did at the end of their product cycle to not give up market share is called BUYING BUSINESS. You are not in the business that's why you don't know crap...enthusiastx and sports.....
