Numbers are impressive and better than the Peugeot-Mini developed 1.6 turbo four cylinder engine. Hyundai has been coming up with very competitive and class leading engines lately.

Hyundai will introduce 670 - 780 hp v8 engine with turbo & GDI technology. Hyundai will put that engine into a new sports car that run 0 - 60 in about 3.5 seconds. This fuel efficient engine consume gas like regular v8 engine ( 16-18 city/24-26 highway ) If they don't care about gas miliage then 0 - 60 less than 3.5 sec. you are going to see within 2-3 years.

Why doesn't the Miata have an engine like this? Perfect match.

These 100+ hp/liter engines suffer from longterm durability. It's been proven over decades that engines with lower hp/liter output have less wear and tear on their components and thus a longer engine life.

Nobody ever talks about Mitsubishi Lancer EVOs or Subaru Impreza WRX STis after they're a few years old with motors in need of some care...

Thats because of how they are driven. My 85 745i has well over 100hp per liter (dynoed 390 to the rear wheels on 98 octane fuel) I drive it hard quite often and have yet to have a problem form the bulletproof 3.4l inline 6. I have almost 300,000 miles on it. Honda's S2000 has been very durable. If you rag a car it will not last as long period. I attribute my car lasting mainly because if its inline 6 engine, which as any mechanic knows has 7 main bearings on the crank, where a v8 only has 5, and a V6 only has four. So my inline 6 has almost twice the bearings on the crank of a v6. Why do you think all of the big 18 wheelers you see on our highways have large inline 6 diesel engines.

Oh, and the reason I get that kind of power is because the turbo boost has been icreased from the stock 6psi to 16psi. Stock is 252hp at the flywheel, many get about 220 to the wheels, so the engine is slightly overrated. Its pretty cool owning a grey market turbo charged BMW.

"If several new stories in Hyundai forums are to be believed, the Veloster Turbo will feature a 1.6-liter GDI turbo powerplant capable of 208 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 195 pound-feet of torque at 5,000 rpm. That's not exactly game-changing power, but keep in mind that the little Veloster weighs all of 2,600 pounds, giving the little coupe a 12.48-pounds-per-pony ratio. And if the Veloster Turbo does indeed feature the 1.6-liter, we're thinking the little ride's laudable 40 mile per gallon highway fuel economy bogey won't be affected all that much." As much as I used to hate the Hyundai brand i have to give it to them lately, they are really building desirable cars.
