Customer Service: Audi USA President Personally Responds To Delayed S4 Delivery
Forum member DATZ ordered a 2011 Audi S4 on December 9th, 2010, in Daytona Gray. He knew that it would take the factory a while to prepare this exclusive color, but when the build date got pushed back to February, then to March, then to May—meaning a delivery date of late July, 7 months after the order—he knew something was up.

“I decided to vent by writing a letter to various VAG and Audi executives, including the CEO/Chairman of VW, Audi’s President of Production, and the President of Audi USA,” he wrote, “not quite as therapeutic as firebombing the dealership, but letter writing involves considerably less jail time.”

It's pretty impressive to have Audi's president call you and give you his sympathy. I'm not sure I've ever heard of such a thing happening.

It probably isn't a normal response but it is a good move to show that someone above is listening.

In case you didn't take the time to read the article, the phone call was followed up with the customer getting a 2011 S4 loaner to drive until his car arrives.

I'll just never understand buying a car in this class brand new.. Why would you WANT to lose that much money in the first 18 months? We're talking 10's of thousands of dollars...

I mean I can see doing it when you're in your 50's and you're buying your first (and most likely, only) Lambo or Ferrari. It's a car you'd most likely have until you die, and you'd want it to be an extra special event and have everything customized how you want it. But an S4?? That's a car you're gonna drive for no more than 3 or 4 years, then have to take it bending over while you trade it in, or sell it and lose a little less money.

I shouldn't complain though. If enough of you idiots don't buy them new and lose all that money, people like me won't be able to swoop in 12 months and 10,000 miles later and pay 25-35% less.

1/2 are leased. Others are purchased by car guys who want what they want, when they want it. Like this guy's custom color, etc. I've been looking too and used S4's are few and the ones that are out there are not equipped the way I want it. So I'll probably go new. Buying a used performance oriented car has its own risks too, and many don't want to incur that.
