Just How Fast Is Too Fast For The Average US Driver?
The Texas House approved a bill that would allow the speed limit on some highways to be raised to 85 mph, which would be the highest in the nation.

The measure passed Wednesday on a voice vote was part of a larger transportation bill. It would authorize the Texas Department of Transportation to raise the speed limit on designated lanes or entire stretches of roadway after doing engineering and traffic studies, the Dallas Morning News reported Thursday.

In that case don't be driving on any 400# highway in the Toronto area 'cause if you're poking along at 120 kmph, you'll be run over.

120kmph is approx 80mph.

I got a ticket for 150kmph on the 405 or 403 freeway that leads into Toronto { Ny to Toronto Trip }.

Funny thing was, i was not going much faster than the rest of the traffic on that particular freeway.

The speed limit should be whatever your particular car tops out at.

It is unfortunate that whatever the speed limit is, drivers think they have the right to drive at that speed irrespective of weather and traffic conditions. I watched people yesterday driving at 80 mph in a hale storm and less than 2 car lengths behind the car in front.
Teach people to drive , then raise the speed limits.

All good answers so far. I'm not going to ruin it.

What the heck, make the min speed limit be the maximum of your car's speed lol jk. But seriously, if we have good drivers it's not the speed that causes accidents but its the bad drivers! So, I say 120 is good to be the min speed.

Depends on the car and condition, the ability, maturity, training and ability of the driver, traffic conditions and weather. Some overly-distracted drivers shouldn't drive 65!

I've always found 80-90 is a good speed (when there's not much traffic). Anything over 90 is just a little fast. I'd say follow the san diego rule, the speed limit is as fast as traffic will allow.

Tiered licensing, registration, and vehicle inspections please. If the requirements are met and driver stays accident free - "reasonable and prudent" applies on highways and rural roads.

I still see people driving 5 under on 40mph roads.

A lady at a Costco gas station couldn't back into the open pump up front. Another who was parked next to me backed out without noticing the kid leaving my car. One other thought it would make her look cool by racing around in a jammed plaza with people walking around...

I regret saying that I'd be for stricter driving laws.
Also, what if the wheel wasn't properly aligned or balanced from hitting curbs and getting outer-rim wheel weights scraped off? Imagine the number of people who notice the shaking only at high speeds... imagine the number of people who freak out and demand that there should be a massive recall.

What utter nonsense.

Granted there are lots of idiotic and naive drivers out there, but that is partially because they are never challenged during the actual driving.

Forcing people to drive at 60-70 in vehicles which can comfortably cruise at 110-120 makes people feel overly confident and bored hence they turn their attention to other things.

Let me ask you this, Have you ever attempted to use Cruise Control at 120mph ?
My guess would be not for long, because if you have ever travelled at that speed you would realize that you need to really pay attention to the road and Cruise Control would hinder your ability to be in full control of your vehicle.

Those who {According to your post} notice the shaking at high speeds if they were remotely sensible would slow down and have their vehicle checked out as soon as was reasonably possible.
