VIDEO: Is The 2012 Porsche Cayman R THAT Much Better Than The Cayman S?
When God created the Porsche Boxster Spyder, it was largely considered awesome; however, there was a price to pay for that. It wasn't exactly practical. My theory is Porsche wasn't too happy about all the Boxster Spyder bashing.

And that's why they produced the Cayman R, which is essentially the same thing as a Boxster Spyder except it isn't wearing a funny hat.

Now although the Spyder and Cayman R are truly fantastic vehicles, Autocar wanted to know if it is really that much greater than a Cayman S. Keep in mind, the R -- like the Spyder -- is more expensive and has less content.

But if you really want a visceral experience, these are probably the most driver's oriented cars out there.

**See what Autocar thinks down below in their video segment comparing the Cayman S and R

Could the new Cayman R better the already impressive Cayman S?

The "R" is really just a special edition...and pretty transparent at that since it is so late in the 987 model cycle.

Haven't driven the R yet, so I'll reserve judgment till later. I love the R's lighter seats and wheels, but the $6,000 premium over the S is a bit of a concern for me.

The Spyder on the other hand, is just a phenomenally beautiful car, and is worth every penny.

@investor27

The Spyder really is a great piece for someone who doesn't mind having something that's not about practicality.

True greatness. Mid engine, somewhat light. The days of high performance sports cars with normally aspirated gutsy engines are numbered. It's got it all goin' on. I want a different color, though.

Spyder is the one to get.
