Illegal Profiling? Cincinnati Police Start Seizing Vehicles With Oversized Rims

Illegal Profiling? Cincinnati Police Start Seizing Vehicles With Oversized Rims
Marcus Jones got his car back from the Cincinnati police impound lot Tuesday.

Why it was taken in the first place made him furious.

"You had no business taking my car for no reason," he says of the police.

Jones and two other drivers complained to Channel 9 that they had been ordered out of their cars, and left to find a way home while their vehicles were towed away.

Cincinnati PD searched the entire vehicle & had their shop inspect it --- all on the premise of oversized wheels....why? They had no reason to seize it & search it. They took advantage of the impound process by just taking the vehicle --- which forced the guy to have to pay a $800+ in fees to get it out of the police impound lot.

I simple citation would have been appropriate (with an order to get the car fully inspected). They know he probably won't sue them b/c he's not a drug dealer and may not have the coin to shell out for BS police actions.

...and what about people driving pickup trucks with monster-truck-sized wheels...? Or pickup trucks with heavy-modified suspensions that make them sit up very high with the huge moster-truck wheels?

They are a bit badda$$, but they don't make them no better for the roads than getting 26" (wagonwheels) rims.

I guess all the de-boosters must agree with the racial profiling? Kinda sad that all they can do is de-boost and not offer a valid reason as to why that isn't racial profiling. The more de-boosting without a valid argument, the more they are admiting that they are a racist. Obams's election must not have went over too well with these people. LOL!!

Just because you don’t like it, doesn’t mean that the owners are stupid. I don't like Lexus; does that mean that all Lexus owners are stupid? Saying that the owners are stupid is more stupid than putting those big obnoxious wheels on the car.

It’s amazing how folks consider their likes to be the gospel, and anyone who likes something that they don’t like must be "stupid". Keep putting your foot in your mouth. Not surprised that you are a Lexus fan. Lexus fans have problems with reality.

I do not care about what searches the police did on the vehicle after it was impounded.

What i do care about is the ability for Idiots {And that is what the owner of this vehicle is} to do really stupid and dangerous modifications on their vehicles and then drive it on public roads.

I have been in the USA and seen some of these Retardmobiles as well as other vehicles that would get you arrested in most other countries in the world proudly being driven on public roads.

The vehicle in the picture was from factory one of the most unwieldy and unstable vehicles ever made, then some Cretin jacks it up high and stuffs 30inch wheels underneath it and somehow it is considered ok for use on public roads ?

Now i see why you have 55mph speed limits on your roads.

The car and others like it should be crushed within 20 mins of being impounded and the bill for the crush sent to the owner.

I'm not sure if that Porsche is yours but judging by that and your name you would be considered more unsafe on the road than those cars seeing as how people speeding in sports cars take way more lives than people with big rims ( which I have never seen or heard of). In my opinion I really don't like them but it is not ok for an officer to harass someone for having them. By the way I am black too and a black person can be racist.

What you think is not important in this matter because currently there are no laws or ordinances in the U.S.A. that prevent large, over-sized wheels from being placed on automobiles. Also, the majority of the "big wheels" you referenced have been TESTED, CERTIFIED and APPROVED for driving. Furthermore, you are not a U.S. citizen, nor a taxpayer so instead of wasting your time making baseless statements which have no validity, please use your displaced fervor and stupidity to solve problems in your own country.

You're black...even worse!!! You should know about the black experience. I grew up in a suburban area with a fairly small black population so I know what DWB is. I have been pulled over for having a nice car. GOD forbid I have a car thats customized in any way. Speedingtickets, you are obviously an idiot, a tom or just a plain douche.
Funny thing about it is the car thats on the picture is not in the article at all.
This is a DWB and a reason to profile and harass black men. The only way this is gonna be a problem is if they start pulling over white guys.
This is very upsetting.
Even worse they are hiding behind DOT to do it. In the story they mention a Cadillac and the reasons that they state are things the could not have possibly seen while the car was driving. Its bull!!! Plain and simple BS. Just a way to bother people.

What an idiotic point of view.

A Tractor Wheel was designed for a tractor, does that make it ok or safe for it to be mounted on a Mini ?

I guess in all the years auto manufacturers have been manufacturing vehicles, the stayed away from installing 30in Rims and jack up suspensions on Sedans because they were not as smart as a few guys who knew better.

Look at the height and rake of the windshield on that vehicle, now look at the bonnet lenght, notice how it is absolutely horizontal, now considering the usual seat positioning of most male drivers please tell me what the sightline or angles of clear forward vision is on that vehicle.

In the Range Rover which has a somewhat horizontal bonnet, the front windscreen is tall and you have Captain Chairs to aid forward vision on other SUVs the bonnet is angled down towards the front to aid forward vision.

I know this site is full of retards who know all about rights and nothing about responsibility but try to disconnect the emotional part of your brain for 1 minute, think about the points i have made and then give me a valid counter argument.

P.S.
A few articles ago the question was posed " How Fast is Fast Enough for US Roads"

Do you honestly think that the type of vehicle pictured above would be safe at 80+mph ?

I have been a victim of racial profiling many times in the USA, it also happens quite a lot in UK because i drive nice cars.
When i am stopped, my cars are stock, i have no weapons, sometimes Cash {Usually Confiscated but i just get necessary paperwork or lawyer to get it back} so it is routine to get out of the situation. Sometimes when i was younger i would be in the wrong like racing an Undercover police car or talking on the cell and would admit to my fault thus again speeding up the process.

About 5 times in the US i have had a really racist cop who did all he could to make my life difficult including arresting me for speeding and hoping i would not have the necessary cash to pay the fine or another who arrested me for not having a USA Driving License even though i told him i was a tourist.

It is entirely possible even very probable that the police in this case did Racially Profile the driver which led them to stop him. However it would be hypocritical of me to automatically claim racial profiling when i know i agree the vehicle unsafe for public roads.

You can pontificate and provide all the sensational rhetoric you choose. However, your overt emotional outbursts and constant whining does not make your flawed assessments correct or accurate.

Furthermore, your minuscule tax donation(s) from visiting/vacationing in the U.S (THANKS) still does not change the FACT(s)that you are not a U.S. Citizen and that you are clearly ignorance of U.S. Criminal Laws and rights of Citizens in North America especially in regards to D.O.T guidelines and large wheels fittments.

All you fools claiming racial profiling:

DID YOU ACTUALLY WATCH THE VIDEO ??

Because of all the negative comments to my posts i went back and watched the video just to be sure.

1) BRAKES WERE INSTALLED BACKWARDS
2) CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS CUT OFF

Now maybe you should save your righteous indignation for when an appropriate situation should arise like when a vehicle that meets all road safety regulations is pulled over.

They weren't pulled over for that. They were pulled over for the wheels which they shouldn't have been pulled over for. Agree? They found that stuff because of they wrongly impounded the car because of the wheels. It was an illegal seizure of the car as well as the search.

Just how big is too big, or how low can you go with low profile tires, and not piss off the Cincinnati PD? That's the question that needs to be asked!

Several cars on the road these days have 18's, 19's or even 20's (aftermarket). Should those owners be pulled over as well? The cats being cut off? That I understand, I don't condone it...but I get it, that's illegal. The brakes being on backward??? How is that even possible...even with aftermarket caliper carriers, I didn't think it was even possible or desirable for that matter, but there are several custom larger brakes setups out there...Technically, by that P.O. lady, having a custom brake setup would be illegal as well.

Where do we draw the line..."tinted windows"??? Well technically, their illegal as well.

Now that is a more sensible line of questioning.

The only reason i commented on this article is that i have seen this type of mod.

On the interstate heading down towards Miami i happened upon about 6 of these vehicles doing 70+mph.

Now i was in a Q7 with stock Audi 21inch wheels, The drivers in these vehicles i swear were LOOKING DOWN at me. I had a good 20 minutes on the freeway to look at these cars as we drove towards miami and all i could find were loads of reasons why those vehicles should not be allowed on public roads let alone freeways.

My guess is that when you have to jack up the suspension on a Sedan or Coupe to the point where it has more road clearance than an F-350 just so you could fit in "Rims", You have gone too far.

There are so many unsafe things people do to there cars such as drop them so low they can't even go over a speed bump and I've seen those cars bottom out and lose control.
