What Would You Do If Your 20 Year Old Son Crashed Your Exotic By Showing Off?
Yesterday, in Germany, between Brokdorf and Wilster, a 20-year-old driver crashed a Gumpert Apollo sports car with a value of at least € 300,000. The youngster was driving too fast in a curve and lost control of the vehicle.

The driver and his 19-year-old female passenger were slightly injured.

Of course, we want to blame someone else for our own experiences. In this case, the 20 year-old lacked the foresight to anticipate that he might lose control while driving a power vehicle in a "spirited" manner. Similarly, the parent lacked the foresight to anticipate that his mormonally-driven, inexperienced son might damage his powerful car.

If I was the parent, I would start at myself, and rejig some of my own thinking so this type of thing doesn't happen again. I'd also be glad that my son was alive. But that's just me. You can choose to feel any way you want about it.

Typo: mormonally -> hormonally
God, how I wish we had an "edit" button :-(

Heh... I imagine there are a few Mormons in Germany, though I doubt any of them own supercars.

Steve is correct.
Allowing 20yr old with more testosterone than brains to drive car with estrogen emitting vessel in passenger seat does require readjustment of parental thought processes. DUH!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sure it's impossible that the 20yr old just took the keys without permission. No children ever take a parent's car out for a ride without permission... Nope, never happens.

Would have never given him the keys. Or at least before giving him the keys, pay for racing school. Reminds me of a local story a few years ago when a 18 year old was speeding with 2 other passengers, in his parents CL65, hit a curb and sent the engine and the car 30 ft from each other. No survivors.

Thankfully the they survived and now they should be beaten real real hard to get the point across.

I remember that story.

I was in Manhattan that morning and the area { West Side Highway} was strewn with MB CL65 parts for about 150 meters.

The distance that huge engine was thrown from the car made me sure the driver must have been traveling at a serious clip.

Real Sad story, i think it was the driver's birthday, had a young girl in the car as well.

What a waste.

CigarGuy insists his "...19-year-old female passenger" had a "hand" in this! LOL

If you can afford one, then Dad will just buy him another one.
I've seen it on a smaller scale....

What did his dad expect when his son is trying to impress this young woman around, I am happy to hear that they are both ok, maybe the young woman will not be impressed next time, when I was young I drove like I was one of the Dukes Of Hazard, I was just as hormonal as this young guy, and maybe I still might be the same, just smarter.

The dad was stupid enough to trust a 20 years old with a 300,000 pound car. I say the father needs discipline.

Simple answer: I wouldn't be letting my 20 year old son drive my car. Regardless if it was my exotic, my daily drive to work, or my beater truck for weekend chores.

He can drive his own beater.

There are two things certain to appear in the newspapers every year...A house burning down around Christmas because young kids were left alone at home and greiving parents who thought it was a good idea to buy junior a Corvette for his high school graduation. Blame the parents and rightfully so.
