Is Lexus NEXT Up To Build A Premium Four-Door Coupe?

Is Lexus NEXT Up To Build A Premium Four-Door Coupe?
You would have thought that Lexus learned its lesson with the CT200h entering the premium compact space a little behind schedule. Well, it looks like the brand may lining up for round two.

Now the Lexus LF-Gh Concept is a little more extreme looking and all but it seems that every high-end manufacturer is embracing the four-door coupe phenomenon. Audi has the A7, BMW has the 6-Series Gran Coupe, Mercedes the CLS and Porsche the Panamera. Lexus, on the other hand, hasn't shown any interest in that market and besides the LF-Gh Concept -- which will likely become the next-generation GS -- the lineup is aging fast.

By doing so is Lexus continuing to brand itself behind the curve OR is Lexus just trying to build cars for its demographic?

They're are choosing not to compete.

But there will be a new GS-F and that's a start. Lexus is taking the "F" thing slowly- hoping over time to develop enough enthusiasts to keep the momentum going and compete with M/AMG/RS etc.....

I seriously doubt the GS-F will directly challenge the M and AMG cars, the LFA makes 550hp in order for the GS to match the power stats of the German cars it will need at least that much if not more. If they detune the engine to less than 500hp unless its alot lighter like the S6 it wont keep pace with the M5 and E63....but for some reason Im doubting Lexus will give the GSF 500+ hp when the LFA costs 375,000 and has 550hp and hits 60 in about 4.0 seconds flat which honestly isnt much faster than the German sedans....

"Four-Door Coupe" is a silly oxymoron, like "fixed roof convertible".

I don't like the way this concept look. It look very similar to the last generation BMW 5-Series.

The last gen 5-series looks a lot better than the current model.

Toyota is very cautious. I bet they have a design and a few test mules, but I bet they are waiting to see how the Audi A7 sells before they make a move into this segment.

apart from the grille, the front looks like the current IS

yes from the front it does but the side remind of the last generation BMW 5-Series Not a bad thing because the last generation BMW 5-Series is a very good looking car. Especially, the 550i and M5.

What, from the images of the GSFh, makes you think it has anything to do with a 4 door coupe? I see nothing of the sort in those images.

And as for being late to the small premium compact class, in the US, Lexus sold more CT's in its first month than the 1, A3, or C30 have sold in any month. More probably than the 3 of them combined. Taking time sometimes has its benefits.

I think they will make a seoarate 4-door coupe style product to compete with cls, gran coupe, a7, panamera, etc

And SO will Acura and Infiniti.

I just hate the notion of a 4 door coupe, I mean seriously what's that all about? Make the car either a sport sedan or a sport coupe, and nothing in between, because it's just ugly!!

the GS already looks like a 4 door coupe. And it came out before the rest of them.

Yeah, I wonder what's the definition of a four door coupe and how exactly the current GS doesn't fit in it...

Headline- "Is Lexus NEXT Up To Build A Premium Four-Door Coupe?" Uh no, they can't as "Lexus" doesn't build cars Toyota builds them. Rant over now. The reactionary business model that Toyota employs for the brand will use caution as usual but they will build something to follow the Germans but Toyota will not do it as well. Just a prediction on my part based on past performance.
