Drop-top SHOWDOWN: 2012 BMW 650i vs. Jaguar XK vs. Maserati Gran Cabrio

Since the unveiling of BMW's latest 6-Series, it has been ridiculed as bland. I guess it didn't help that BMW North America's CEO touted it as one of the best designs BMW had ever created. Well, he was right in some respect because it's interior -- a BMW downer for years -- is incredibly nice.

But enough about its design already. To some what really matters is how the car stacks up against the latest and greatest competition. According to Auto Motor Und Sport, BMW should be proud.

In recent testing against the Jaguar XK Convertible and Maserati Gran Cabrio, the BMW topped both with 498 points. In comparison, the XK earned 454 points and the Gran Cabrio chalked up only 418.

With that said, the 6'er did some lumps for being emotionless. Given the funds, would you choose a better overall product OR something, like the Maserati, that is a pure emotional purchase?

BMW's new 6-series convertible (F12) just hit the streets which means review comparison time. In their latest issue AMS pits the BMW 650i Convertible against two of its natural enemies - the Jaguar XK Convertible and the Maserati Gran Coupe.

We're happy to share that the F12 650i was able to finish this comparison on 1st place with 498 Points in total. Per AMS, "anything but a victory would have been a suprise. The new 6er Cabrio wins almost every category and shines both in comfort and driving dynamics. It doesn't evoke strong emotions, but nevertheless does everything extremely well...

The XK is really nice. Jaguar still has issues that should have figured out log ago. The Granturismo, but I like to call it the GranCabrio, is all sound and looks. The F13 650i is available with a 6-speed manual here in the US, nice! The Maserati is soooo nice, hmmmm. Talked to a guy last Tuesday taking delivery of a new 2011 Grandcabrio, blk/blk/blk. His boss bought it for him and paid cash. The books & manuals didn't fit in the glovebox. In 2011 they can't make a glovebox to fit these items? Sounded great though. I am thinking 650i.

It's a cabrio, not a daily commuter, so I'd go with all emotion.

Everything about the new 650i is better than the out-going model with the exception (IMO) of the exterior design... Especially the rectangle tail-pipes!
