OH SNAP! Agent009 Comes Home To Find His Wife Has THIS In The Garage!

OH SNAP! Agent009 Comes Home To Find His Wife Has THIS In The Garage!
It is no secret that I am not a fan of certain brands or concepts, but sometimes for the greater good you just need to suck it up and take one for the team.

Last weekend started out innocently enough as I left town on Friday afternoon for a weekend campout with my son.  I have known for sometime my wife was looking for a replacement for her Mercedes-Benz ML350 and I knew she had narrowed her final choices down to a relatively small list.  I also felt confident that she was in good hands with our friends over at E-CarOne in Carrollton.  They had sold us the ML350 just a scant 24 months earlier and we have whole heartedly recommended them ever since.  I knew she could hardly do wrong.

Since the campout was in a remote region of Texas I knew communication would be impossible.  So while en-route to the homestead on Sunday morning I gave her  a call and she said she had a surprise for me when I got home.  Obviously she had made a choice and my mind raced as to what it could be. Was it another Mercedes? Perhaps a BMW X5, or maybe even the Infiniti FX she was eying?  Whatever the choice was I felt she had done well. She knows how to make a well informed decision.

And then I got home.

We parked out front and she greeted me at the door and escorted me to the garage.  As the door slowly rolled opened I immediately recognized the shape, it was a late model Lexus RX!  Oh lord would I EVER live THIS down!  As I walked around to the back I saw it was a RX400h.  An "h"?  Oh no a HYBRID!  I was speechless.  How could I be caught dead with a Hybrid in the stable after all I have said over the years? I started to feel faint.

After the initial shock had worn off, I looked over the deal, and realized yet again our friends at E-CarOne had done us well.  Not only had she done an exceptionally fine job of finding a clean example of the breed with low miles, she got it for well under market value and received top dollar for her trade! There wasn't a thing I could complain about with the finances.  I would simply have to live with the thought of not only a Lexus in the house, but a hybrid as well.

So I come to you my friends and tell you that while I haven't sold my soul to the devil just yet. I have opened the door agreed to take my medicine like a man and at least give the brand and the hybrid concept a personal trial.  If there ever was a poster child for the typical soccer mom in a Lexus my dear wife is it. I also assure you by the time this ownership experience is over, I will indeed have arrived at the what the real truth is about both.

So I invite you all to see the latest vehicle in Agent009's stable a 2008 Lexus RX400h.
I want to give a special shout out to Josh, Ryan and Ozzie over at E-CarOne for making this deal the way any car purchase should be, a fair and painless process.

My only worry is going to be explaining this one to the rest of my family..... Oh lord, I think I'm feeling sick again!

Wow 009! For me this is a little odd too. My wife has the exact same car 'colors and all' minus the hybrid and she my wife has the traditional 4 slat grill. I can't speak to the hybrid feel but I really like my wife’s car: plenty of AWD power and fun to drive. One thing is for sure you can beat the shit out of these cars without thinking twice and they will go forever. My wife's RX is an 08' 350 with just under 70K miles and it still feels new. I am very curious how a hybrid might feel because of the type of driving I do; as long as it has substaintial power and torque I would be very interested...

Correction: Grill is traditional "vertical" slat design and her wood trim is some sort of grey walnut color.

Mama gets what Mama wants.

I never have and never will veto a choice of hers and she can get what she wants. I view it as an opportunity for me to live with one for a few years and see if it can actually live up to the hype.

She typically picks up a different car about every 2 years, so if it fails to impress in any way, then she won't have it long to worry about.
This is why it is a 2008. We let someone else pay the depreciation.

Nice story. But sounds like the truth is more like: E-CarOne gives you a sweet deal on a car, so you can post the story about it. Terms are mention that E-CarOne is awesome and treated your wife well, for a nice $$$ discount.

Actually we paid the full price advertised. They specialize in off lease vehicles and are a volume dealer. The prices typically are well under NADA pricing by quite a bit and are non negotiable.

Thank god my fiance would not pick this car given the other options. I trust mine to make decisions as well, thankfully she has good taste.

I'm sorry for your loss (ML350) and you may just have a nice SUV there with the RX400h, but the blandness will overtake you soon enough.

It is all about who drives it the most which is her for sure. Who knows the blandness might appeal to her over time. There is a certain comfort if the style and features just fit.

My dad bought a GS on my recommendation and loves it. To each their own I guess.

Agent009, do you live in Dallas?

My parents still live in the same West Plano house I grew up in, a stones throw away from Carrollton.

Wait a minute. I thought he was from my area (Chicagoland)... I saw something about Schaumburg Audi or something a long time back... *shrugs shoulders*

No one said it is breaking news... But since it contradicts my mantra, I had to fess up.

Besides you reap what you sow and in this case I very well could end up eating my words.

Agent 009

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

How many times has your wife asked you to stop hanging your head in shame???

It's alright, it's a nice ride.

When my son was born I told him 3 things.

#1. We will always drink Coke, not Pepsi
#2. We will never drive a Hybrid
#3. Your mother will always say "No" more that I would

With the being said, if the right Hybrid came along, I'd consider it I actually really like the Honda CR-Z.

Good luck with it.

I think that is be the best option for a woman in its class. If I had to pick an SUV for my mom to have, that would be it.

Can't believe it has a tape deck in this day and age. Other wise, yes, its a womans truck.

I did find it odd that a tape deck was still part of the sound system too, but Lexus knows their target audience. It is there for a reason.

I drove an RX330 for the last7 years, until recently moved into an RX450h. Best cars I will ever own. period. Soon you and your wife will find out how easy it is to live with an RX, that why they sell a gazillion of them

Unbelievable- Your wife betrayed you! :)

Why would she go out car shopping WITHOUT you to begin with? Well, in her defense, all women love 'fluff'. And trust Lexus to provide that plentifully! Admit it- you were VERY upset for a long time after this 'surprise' and you still are in denial!

Well, hope you guys will be happy with the purchase though!

I love ecarone - only to browse their showroom every month!

I have to admit I am browse their site WAY too often. Thank goodness the wife picks up a new car every 2 years. It gives me an excuse to drop by from time to time. Now if I can just talk her into that R8 with only 300 miles on it for me I will be set.

Let me take this opportunity to clear something up 009. Your contributions to this site are an irritant to many people not because you dislike Toyota/Lexus, but because every headline you post has a stupendously idiotic and baseless spin on the actual story it is hovering over.

009 - I know you know that I enjoy giving you a hard time about being biased against hybrid, Lexus, and anything Obama-related but this posting is in good fun and I enjoy reading it. I'll be curious to see if we can detect any signs of your straying from your previously held position on Lexus and hybrid (and no, I don't need to see an outright confession, we can tell simply from the way you phrase the title of your posting :-) Cheers

I'm not shifting sides any time soon. BUT I do have really need to experience the whole package long term. Just because something doesn't appeal to me doesn't make it invalid.

It takes a lot to make the market move the way it does and I look forward to getting a chance to put my money where my mouth is. The ML350 was a great car and a tough act to follow.

They keep putting out more luxury cars like the genesis and equus, its only a matter of time before they need a luxury suv to match. perhaps a genesis badged mdx/x5 competitor
