The legendary G-Class is entering its 27th year of production bristling with new energy. Even after its latest rejuvenation cure this classic cross-country vehicle still retains its striking figure and the highly robust foundations on which it has stood since 1979. In this most recent stage in its evolution, this ancestor of all Mercedes-Benz SUVs has acquired an ultra-modern diesel powerplant. The G 320 CDI has an output of 165 kW/224 hp, is fitted as standard with a diesel particulate filter and complies with the strict EU4 exhaust emission limits.

Call me silly but this to me "looks" like the real thing. You can drive in style yet take this thing down mountain slopes, through bogs, swamps, desert dunes, whatever. I have always had a soft spot since I was a kid for this crazy looking thing. The Geländewagen....its name says it all (for those of you not of German desecnt nor know the language this truck means Difficult Land Vehicle, loosely translated...)

I guess DH doesn't know a thing about the G Class's history. The design had survived since WW2 (with the original) the later had been minor updates. This is the ultimate all terran vehicle, with moving body panels to accomodate the car's weight when angled at various degrees on and off a hill. It is extremely Solid and Durable.

The design is stunning and is a timeless masterpiece. A great example of form follows function!

You should do some research. Cheap version of H1?
The G was designed way before any H1.

MB is being conservative with the G. There is no need to modernize it. The have the GL and ML for that. If they modernized the G it would lose its whole appeal.

This IS the real thing. Designed originally for the Shah of Iran as his desert/mountain vehicle, it will go places where the H1, H2, OR H3 wouldn't dare to go. Ok, so it ford a stream as deep as an H1, but that's about it. It is capable in the extreme and I'd still have mine if I could've gotten the diesel, particularly the 4.0 liter V8 that was engine of the year in Europe 4 years ago. It will run circles around an H1 without breathing hard. When I pulled into the Beverly Hills Hotel 4 years ago, everyone came out to look at it. Same thing happened at the Top of the Mark in SF. It has class and capability. It is the only SUV (a demeaning term for this vehicle) that comes standard with three locking diffs. But, in the real world it is overkill unless you live in the mountains at the end of a logging road.
