NEW YORK AUTO SHOW: Lexus' Cute CT200h Gets MEAN And Beefy

NEW YORK AUTO SHOW: Lexus' Cute CT200h Gets MEAN And Beefy
I never thought I'd say it either but this Lexus CT200h is badass. I am just not sure if that's a good or bad thing, yet. But that's why you guys are here!

At the Lexus stand, the brand was showing off a pretty boldly modified CT200h. Although at first I believed it was a widebody, but it appears to be just a cosmetic kit. Boasting some pretty serious fender flares, lowered suspension, custom wheels and an upgraded brake kit, this CT means business. Note: it also wears a badge/sticker that proclaims "Supercharged," granted, the hood isn't open so we can't confirm that.

Considering the fact it is a hybrid and it is not exactly a racer that requires a diffuser would I be wrong for calling this car out as a "poser?"

Lexus are you kidding us, WTF ?
This just looks plain ugly.

Looks like a Mexus..Mexican Lexus

I dont even think Mexican's would ride like this. This is stuff that Lexus needs to leave in their home market. If Mansory did a version of the CT it would look like this. Why do they feel the need to "fast and furious" everything? Ugh, this is why they will NEVER be Audi, BMW, or Mercedes. Its popular in their culture though so whatever...

It can lose the diffuser on the rear. The rest is a stab in the right direction.

*looks at 009* You have the "stab" part correct but "right direction" I dont think so. To each his own I guess... *shrugs*

If this was a Audi A3 or some other German hatch, every badge whore up here will probably said how Awesome and Mean the car look and how the Japanese cannot make a similar car, LOL......

I think it look really good except the rear diffusers on the rear.

it's ugly and it's a performance dog. poseur car. should not be uttered in the same sentence with any of the german entry level cars.

Overall it is kind of bold, something that could make it into production if it were any other automaker. But apparently Lexus believes that face is on par with that ridiculous rear diffuser and as such this will never make it past the concept car stage.

Lipstick on a Pig!! Lexus needs to stop trying to make the car look like something it isn't. If it doesn't have the performance to backup the looks? Then its just a poser car. Nice looking but lacking any real substance. Which pretty much sums up all Lexuses with the exception of the nice looking part.

What about the new 2012 Lexus IS-F which was recently compare to the BMW M3 and the review said is on par or better than the BMW M3.

And the Lexus LF-A which combine performance, luxury and comfort which is something BMW currently had nothing in it stable that can be compare to it.

I said "pretty much". The 2 cars that you just mentioned are very nice cars. The CT200h isn't imo.

Which review?

blech...a dog of a poser hot rod. it still takes the same amount of time to hit 60mph as a late 80s lincoln town car: 9.8 seconds per the lexus site (and they're always generous).

it has a badge that says supercharged. they wouldn't even open the hood. whatever.

The way the thing looks you'd think that it would be able to run with the EVOs, STIs and Mustangs. When the reality is that it will get beat by a Corrola. LOL!! I'm sorry but that car is about as fake as any car can get. Not Surprised that it has a Lexus Badge.

Dr550 is right. SEMA was a while ago. Toyota desperately wants jazz up the "Lexus" brand which is why this was done. Overall a FAIL. But there are a couple of things that I do like.

1) the rims were well chosen. Looks like Forgestar to me.
2) the paint is really nice looking, has a rich feel to it but the metallic flake is too large.

The big brake kit looks nice but the black calipers are lost next to the tires visually. If someone buys a big brake kit they want to show off the calipers. Should have chosen a different caliper color. If they had chosen to just enlarge the fenders for a DTM look with the front fascia that it has the car would be almost there.

But the rear looks like a 16 year-old got to select that part. And it doesn't even look right at all. They could have used a diffusor with CF and a lot smaller. And the rear is the worst part. And the car has no exhaust tips or was this car not ready for primetime whe n it was time take it to the show? And the car will still be slow after all of this. Overall it says "look at me in my tarted-up slowwww Lexus"!

I see that everyone is juiced up on the "tarted up Ct200h". What everyone else seem to forget is the "supercharged" decal on the side and another decal that says "Foxmarketing.net" If memory serves me well, Fox Marketing collaborated with Artisan Performance to twin turbocharged the first Lexus IS-F. I wouldn't be surprised if this CT200h has a supercharger in it.

And if, indeed, it does. What do you guys have to say, now?

As for the MPG its all up to the software that controls the Hybrid Synergy Drive. There was a guy supercharging 1gen Prius but without modifying the software and the result was same performance/fuel economy as before.

lol I'm shocked he was able to keep the same performance/fuel economy. It would be running far too lean and cause damage to the engine through excessive wear and tear.

In actuality the car is a European market Toyota Avensis with a Toyota Camry Hybrid drivetrain. So it really is a tarted-up Toyota when it is all said and done. And if it is supercharged, that is cool. But still there is not much there.
