NEW YORK AUTO SHOW: Does Infiniti's IPL G Convertible Stand A Chance Against The BMW 335is And AUDI S5?
It has always been my experience with Nissan and Infiniti products that they always match up performance wise, but when it comes down to execution the marque falters.

Take, for example, the NISMO 370Z. An absolutely brilliant piece for around $40,000 that offers plenty of value for dollar, particularly when its compared against a Cayman. The only problem is that its not all that refined. It's clutch is tuned for precision and punishes you harshly if you don't comply and additionally, it's suspension is so stiff that you may need to see a chiropractor after you get out -- not literally. Additionally, although I am positive some owners track their NISMOs, it isn't really a track-spec vehicle in my opinion. It seems to be a track-focused daily driver, if that makes any sense.

With that said, the IPL G convertible is going up against some serious competition in form of the BMW 335is, which is likely one of the best BMW products ever, and the Audi S5, which is also another top-notch product.

The thing that makes the BMW and the S5 SO great, is that the Germans are refined and can be used in a pothole-ridden daily drive. The IPL, while I have yet to test the coupe, makes me wonder if that is possible.

What say you, Spies? Do you believe the IPL has what it takes to challenge the Germans?

the metal on the side of the headrests looks classy, otherwise its not really doing anything for me

Red interior and red trim is really garish.

I like the way the G37 is going, and Infiniti definately needed to introduce a "top end" version, but there is something about that front clip that turns me off. Instead of looking refined, it looks a little too...boy racer ish?

Im still of the opinion that they should go 'a little further' with the IPL. Clearly Nissan has the tech skill, look at the GTR. While this attempt at making a GT cruizer more aggressive, I feel like it falls short of other "special editions" in the same segment, but probably takes on the 'base' (if you can call them that) 335 and A5 'verts with a fair degree of confidence.

Sure in can compete, but whats with the running boards.

The exterior color is very nice. The interior is trying to hard. With the red interior they should have selected a grey, silver or black exterior color but the color combo is not very nice looking together. The running boards are an abomination. And the front valance is not very good looking either. The whole thing looks contrived. IPL is NISMO, that is funny. The A5/S5 looks much better than this and the 3 Series is way better then this which sounds about right.

As far as looks go, yes it can compete and wins in my opinion. However, they need to focus on its performance to match and beat the others.

The answer is no...The S5 and 335is leave out cartoonish boy racer ground effects and not to mention they have real go behind them. The Infiniti G37 is coarse sounding and it really is not quick enough nor does it have prestige enough to warrant a $50K price tag.

A cruiser...the one you buy if the wife has equal say on purchase. If she has any say but less than half its the Audi S5. If its your choice alone then its the Ultimate Driving Machine. Nothing worse than buying a car you love and hearing the wife belittle it at every chance she gets...better to compromise unless she doesn't care.

this car isnt bad and is 10k cheaper then the others but ive read in numerous articles that the performance is exactly the same as the regular g37 and in my opinion the g37 looks better cause you dont have all the boyish ground effects on it (but thats personal preference) why spend more for no added performance? before you guys deboost me im not saying its better then the 3 or the s im just saying not everybody can afford them so if this is your option what are you going to get the IS lol.

And a Nissan GT-R will eat up anything Lexus has to offer, including the LF-Gay. So, what's your point again?

first off we are talking convertibles with that being said there is no isf for the convertible. you get the is 350 or 250 ic. the F for the convertible is cosmetic with no engine upgrades so know what you are talking about before you post

second the isf if it were convertible it wouldnt compete with the 335is the s5 or this ipl. it would compete with the M AMG and RS cars and we all know what happened in that situation.
