Justice Department Forms Task Force To Look Into Gas Price Gouging
Prodded by growing public frustration over sharply rising gasoline prices, the Justice Department on Thursday announced the formation of a team -- the "Oil and Gas Price Fraud Working Group -- tasked with the goal of ensuring consumers are not victims of price gouging.

Gas prices exceeding $4 per gallon or higher are "tough" for most Americans, President Barack Obama told an audience in Reno, Nevada. "We are going to make sure that no one is taking advantage of American consumers for their own short-term gain

...and while they're at it, can we do something about the extra charge for using a credit card?

It's all political BS that will lead to nothing. It's Obama initial battle cry to kick-start his re-election campaign, but it's hollow. Obama is making a lot of noise right now and no action. We need action. We need decisiveness, not hollow battle cries.

Its really a quite simple answer. President Obama has been spending lots of money. Therefore the Fed has had to print more. More money out there creates less demand for the U.S. Dollar. THis in turn devalues the dollar. Therefore, it takes more dollars to buy the same amount of oil.

President Obama wants to devert attention from the fact it is his fault by creating a task force to see if there is fraud by the oil companies. Typical Obama fasion..everything is someone elses fault and I'm going to publically complain about it.

I agree, however, I do believe the us govt is borrowing far more then they are printing. Nonetheless same deal, only lower dollar value=higher import costs.

I know the problem. We are not buying enough Chevy Volts and Prii! Quick run out and pick one up today! And while your out you can swing by Home Depot and get a few solar panels and wind generator to toss on your roof and backyard, start digging a hole for geothermal heat.

What a load of crap. I am all for renewable energies, but you can't get there by destroying the economy. Innovation fuels advancement and if you don't have money for innovation, you can't advance. So while we work on these new energy forms that are not yet cost effective, we can still utilize fossil fuels and gradually switch. This frigin wackjob thinks he can do it overnight.

I love reading all these claims as to which president did what for our contry, here is the list of our countries debt going back to 1993. You can see from this that nither Republican nor Democratic leadership has benefited us in any way as a country and as a people. You decide for yourselves but the numbers dont lie. (Debt in Trillions followed by finacial year)$4.41-'93, $4.69-'94, $4.97-'95, $5.22-'96, $5.41-'97, $5.52-'98, $5.65-'99, $5.67-'00, $5.80-'01, $6.19-'02, $6.76-'03, $7.35-'04, $7.90-'05, $8.45-'06, $8.95-'07, $9.65-'08, $11.03-'09 and $13.05-'10. Now with this you can see that what ever any politician says about trying to reduce the debt, if they or their party was in office in any of these years they have contributed to our debt load and not done anything to help the american people!! Bailouts, Government funded projects, government Aid abroad, or just gready politicians are all bad for the US and the people need to stad united against this, not argue over the curent leadership and what they are doing. How about what the Government has already done to us and is continuing to do and all they do is scare the US people with loss of jobs or something and we give them more!! How dumb are we???

Based on the numbers you provided, there is a much greater spike in '09 and '10 compared to all years before it.

Oh yes and sorry for the bad spelling. When I go on my rants I forget about proper grammar and spelling. So forgive me on that. If you like you can chart Government Spending in those same years and see that both debt and Spending has consistently grown and that is what is going to break us all in the end.

This up and down price swing has been going on for ten years or so . The government gets involved , makes a fuss and then the prices will come back dowm , all while the oil zars are counting the windfallls . Then it will start all over again when all the storm clouds are over and the cycle will keep repeating . I must also add , the gas have stations have to be tired of changing the prices all the time . Why don't they scarap the price listing and put up a sighn that say . bend over because, all localities have the same price anyway.
