Honda and Subaru still make the best vehicles overall, but Ford posted the largest gain, improving both its road-test and reliability scores in the past year, according to Consumer Reports annual Automakers Report Card for 2011.

Ford has outpaced its cross-town rivals in reliability in recent years, and this year its average test score for all tested models rose from 66 to 70. Current offerings such as the Fusion, Flex, and Mustang have been impressive, and even the new Fiesta scores well in tests. Consumer Reports currently Recommends 71 percent of the Ford vehicles it has tested.

Best car of the world depends of your own preferences...but if we are talking of reliability alone, then the Best is Lexus ...definiteley. But I prefer european cars.

Lexus.. I still don't see any car going over 300,000 miles and has less problems than a Lexus. Until then, Lexus, and second Acura.

So this surely is the true answer to which car is actually best over all. Who ever last the longest, who will be the last car standing like an energizer bunny, going going & going.

If I were to design a car with about 25hp/liter, overbuilt every engine part so the wear and tear alone would take 1million miles before something needs replacing, and had an active oil filtration system so the car wouldn't need oil changes. Would that mean I would have just designed the worlds best car? Plus, technically even a ferrari could get to 300,000 miles and not see any problems. Stick to an expensive/religiously scheduled maintenance/part replacement plan and you're gold.

Ferrari 300,000 miles without an issue?? Your just pulling my leg right

And I stated best overall from everything u mention to paint, rust, materials fading, rubber coming off, door handles, sensors, mufflers, quietness, etc.. every part, every single piece of the vehicle, that's what "Overall" means.

This 1976 Fiat 131 Mirafiori went 1,025,098 km and suffered its first breakdown to a timing belt failure at 878,582 km. According to the article the owner still drives it putting more and more miles on it without any issues whatsoever.

Cut the BS about Lexus being the only brand that doesn't suffer problems or can make it to 300,000 miles "without problems". That's BS. Virtually every car can reach 300,000+ miles with proper care and maintenance.

OK, let me repeat myself for the ones that clearly don't understand yet again.

First the title of the article is "WHO makes the best car here in America"
Fiat is not sold here in America.

2nd, I never said 300,000 miles without issues. Clearly some point in time all cars are going to have issues, but I stated with the "least problems at 300,000 miles."

"So this surely is the true answer to which car is actually best over all."

Is different then saying the best over all including everything else about the vehicle. You stated that overall the only way to judge a vehicle is based solely on mileage. This may not have been what you meant, but that's what you wrote.

Best for what???
In the affordable market:
Reliability = Lexus
Performance = BMW
Quality = Dunno, maybe Audi or BMW
Design = Infiniti just for being different/ Hyundai and Kia get honorable mention for the price of their cars.

Now are we talking sold in America or made in America or based in America (GM/Ford)? American owned cars would be Ford in most categories.

I know too many people with Lexus/Toyota products wth engines blown before 70,000 miles. My own LX 470 started making a knocking sound at around 47,000 miles so I traded it in for a Cadillac Escalade which has around 72,000 miles and runs like a clock.Read this from Consumer Affairs. Most reliable my *&%

troubles likely to make General Motors No. 1 again

In this Nov. 29, 2010 photo, the logo for a GM dealership in Redwood City, Calif., is diplayed. Sales of General Motors cars and trucks rose 11 percent last month, a sign that the auto industry's slow recovery is gaining traction. (AP Photo/Paul Sakuma)
DETROIT — General Motors is almost certain to claim the title of world’s biggest automaker this year, retaking the top spot from Toyota, which has been hurt by production problems since the Japanese earthquake and still can’t escape the shadow of major safety recalls.

The No. 1 title, a morale booster for the winner’s employees and managers, would cap GM’s remarkable comeback from bankruptcy.

GM’s sales are up, mainly in China and the U.S, the world’s top two markets. Its cars are better than in the past, especially small ones.

But even though GM came within 30,000 sales of Toyota last year and began strong in 2011, any sales victory this year has more to do with Toyota’s problems.

First, a series of big recalls has ballooned to 14 million vehicles worldwide and damaged Toyota’s reputation for reliability. Second, the March 11 earthquake and tsunami in Japan curbed Toyota’s car

1. Hyundai/KIA- The Best David and Goliath Story ever to be in the biz
2. MB- Badge Status, Reliability, Depth of car choices
3. Cadillac- Because you're dumb enough to spend over 90,000 on a Chevy tahoe/suburban/avalanch. The CTS is the only product they make that is a worthy competitor to the European and Japanese.
4. Porsche- Badge Status, Quality
5. Ford- Microsoft sync, bringing their European cars here
6. Subaru- "the Power of AWD",has the least recalls and is super reliable. Definitely an under rated underdog.
7. Audi- Interiors-couldn't agree more.
8. BMW- best driving dynamics, most sporty of sedans
9. Infiniti- they make the best looking Japanese cars by far Agreed, they haven't gone crazy like the designers at honda.
10. RAM- Loves the Cummins, Best diesel in a pickup by far. The cumming inlinne 6 is a medium duty diesel while the Ford and GM are light duty. Plus the inline 6 has 7 main bearings on the drank while athe v* only has 5. Not to mention the other two are a nightmare to work on while the inline 6 is very easy to work on and everything is easy to get to.

Which would you rather have to work on. Think of how much money you will be paying the local mechanic when the warranty on your powerstroke runs out.

Ford definately has the most features, but I still can't get over the hard rough hollow plastic dash that echoes like a cardboard box when you tap it. Chryslers new cars have the best made interiors of any American car. The new charger dash is made of the same soft touch padding you find in a BMW or Mercedes.

The Japanese Toyota/Lexus Honda/Acura Nissan/Infiniti but that may soon change with all that's going on. It may soon switch to Korean or American. Nothing in Europe stands a chance.

Audi. I think they have hit the nail on the head in terms of a great blend of quality, reliability, performance, safety, features and design.

Porsche - definitely not. Yes they have good performance and features but their designs are definitely a matter of opinion, as is reliability.

I don't get it...the question is who makes the best cars in america, yet the box has the logos of automobile manufacturers that don't make cars in america. And if consumer reports already provided the list by their own objective testing, why are we wasting time on this? Obviously Ford wins. And, of those that sell cars in america, Honda and Subaru win. No other company can claim the title of "best", except in their own delusional mind.
