SPIED: Porsche's Third-Gen Boxster Spotted, To Inherit Panamera-Cues?

SPIED: Porsche's Third-Gen Boxster Spotted, To Inherit Panamera-Cues?
Arguably considered the best roadster around, the Boxster is due for a full-on update. As you can see in the spy photos uncovered, it doesn't look like much of a change, however.

But if you know Porsche's ways you'd know that it's a brand that relies heavily on its legendary heritage and evolutionary design. According to Carscoop, the next-gen Boxster will roll on a modified 991 platform and will benefit from Panamera-inspired cues on the exterior AND interior.

Considering the Cayenne, and from what we've seen of the 991, have adopted the Panny's interior look, we're not shocked.

The next iteration of the 911 series, codenamed 991, isn’t the only new model undergoing development by Porsche these days. The Stuttgart-based sports car maker is also busy testing a brand new generation of the Boxster, as these latest spy photos reveal.

In typical Porsche fashion, the third generation Boxster’s styling will be an evolution of the second generation model, which itself was an...evolution of the original drop-top, entry-level Porsche which debuted in 1996...

Looking forward to a more efficient engine with more power and less weight, that's about it. Those upgrades alone will turn the base Boxster into a beast.

In the next generation I'd like to see a bit more power and more interior space. I recently drove an 08 Boxster and it seemed anemic and small to me. My V6 Camry pulls as hard as the engine in the Boxster that I drove. If I decide to by another car i'm thinking at the very least a Boxster S or maybe spend a few more bucks to get a 911.

few more bucks? try conservatively 10-15K... thats about 20-25% of the price, hardly a few bucks...

@ThierryHenry14...It's only a few bucks when you got it. I do...apparently you don't. That still doesn't change what I said. When I got in it the car was kinda small. I'm not a big guy and I couldn't fit very comfortably and the base car needs more power.

When you see somebody looking for a sports car and asking about the trunk space, about the fuel economy or how many miles you can get on a galon of gas, it's called champagne taste on a beer pocket!!

nice one Tauron...

Bragging about your wealth and status on an internet blog... Loser. And I said at the very least, so great that you have the money, but even the people I know who are in the Asset / Wealth Management programs at the firm I work for consider 10-15K more than a few bucks... ;)

All you haters just need to go and test drive one, Boxster S or Cayman S, and you will stop complaining about the looks being the same generation after generation. It's not about that. It's about the underlining genetics that will thrill and impress you within seconds after taking the car out.

+1 for you...

What many people who are not Porsche Fanatics or Porsche Owners do not understand is that for Porsche, Form Follows Function, so no tacky wings, no big flares and no innovative design cues are needed...

If this design works and makes them the premier sports car, why change the formula...

Absolutely! Porsche has always stood for Performance with utter practicality. This has always been their history. Of course you have the limited production variants like a 918. However the mainstream production cars will always be a car that can be used for daily use along with great performance.Porsche's M.O is not about flashyness. The cars flashyness comes from it's performance and handling. Also a Porsche must always be recognized as a Porsche. People complain about the fact that Porsche does not significantly update it's design. The answer is it doesn't have to. Like Aston Martin there will always be a clear lineage from the original 356 to the most current 911.The signature cues will always be there. Also you have to realize that there is a danger of looking too much like other makes if you modernize too much.
What happens when this occurs. You get a Chris Bangle designer that shakes up the industry with radical (and unfortunately hideous) design cues.Porsches don't look like other cars and to me that's good. The 918,while pretty does have a generic supercar look about it.

Hats off to your comment!!!
The thing that "hatters" hate the most, is that the same shape from the 60's has been able to battle all it's competitors to the highest level and in all scenarios with a very successful outcome. The very last example of their success is a normally aspirated 4.0 flat 6, delivering 500hp.-

I'm ready to buy another Porsche. I want it to look like a Porsche. I'm glad they have continuity in design.

I also want to buy the four. I care about fuel economy, as I don't want oil dollars going to the nasty places they go. I don't care about sending champagne money to France, on the other hand.
