OUCH! Dealers Voice Concern By Telling Lexus It Is A "Follower, NOT A Leader"

OUCH! Dealers Voice Concern By Telling Lexus It Is A
Being the top-selling U.S. luxury brand for 11 years was nice, but according to a list of gripes in a leaked internal document obtained exclusively by Jalopnik, they're also on the verge of becoming the new Buick.

The document — the notes from the Lexus Southern Region's dealership meeting — outlines several long-standing concerns, which the dealers say Lexus parent Toyota has been slow to tackle. Most boil down to dealers across the country begging Lexus for better vehicles in an aging lineup.

Considering that the parent company, Toyota, is losing out to Hyundai/Kia in the Camry/Carolla segment, what makes you think they'll make better decisions for Lexus?

Their best seller right now is the Prius because nothing else is even close.

The Lexus CT200h? A complete failure, panned by all the critics and consumers. If that's their version of "listening", they are in deep trouble.

incorrect. Lexus had released a statement, saw it on CBS, that they will NOT be redesigning their vehicles for the next 5 years. Also, my friend works at a toyota dealership and they were told the same thing.

quizz? You're smoking crack about the CT.

quizz apparently hasn't had any of the Lexus coolaid you've had 800over. The ct hasn't been received warmly by most automotive critics, and the sales numbers prove it hasn't been warmly received by consumers either.

you are right about the critics, but the CT is selling above expectations around the world. At 2,199 sold last month in the US, it was the 3rd best selling hybrid in the US. compare that to the bmw 1 series (949 units) and audi A3 (576 units)

Honestly I don't think Entune will help anything. I think Lexus needs to work on design and use of better luxury materials inside. Remember when you could get the Coach Edition.

Also, most Asian countries don't try to change everything year to year because they have centuries of tradition to follow, unlike our "change we can believe in". The Lexus designers are not willing to change course and the bean counters hollow out the car. It's all up to Akio and what he wants to do with the brand. I think design language is a priority, then new tech.

Even Lexus dealers know that their cars are dull.

lexus is a follower and not leader. who didnt know this? They are boring to drive and the japanese can only copy what other people do. they are less expensive because they wait for other companies to do R&D and therefore the other companies charge more to cover those costs.
I would rather walk than drive a lexus or toyota. people who buy those vehicles have never driven a vehicle that they enjoy, whether it is a wrangler, miata, SRT4. They are simply boring people and I assess this by my job who I come in contact with people and see their vehicles everyday.

Yeah, right!
I see nothing boring about my 2003 IS300.
May be you should educate yourself about the Lexus models apart from ES and RX?

2ndbimmer, why would you select for an example "Wrangler" when comparing driving enjoyment to a Lexus. Very few, let me repeat, very few vehicles have been so thoroughly tested and achieved such off road excellence as the Jeep wrangler. You are comparing apples and oranges my friend. I'm venturing to guess you have never stepped of the pavement before. (lol)

Ya'll sound like the same idiot's who said Lexus would never compete back in the 90's. You didn't know anything then and you don't now. Your words are nothing but dribble.....

You know, I'm a fan of all brands, including Lexus for what it is and what they're trying to change. I commend them for that. Adding cars and transitioning current cars to newer models takes billions of dollars and time. It doesn't happen over night. As you can see in the last couple of years, that's been happening. I don't know about you guys but, they're laughing all the way to the bank.

Rectifier, ES and Rx are 90% of sales, so none the other models matter.

Actually, Lexus does seem extremely slow in getting new vehicles out... but I think the Japanese are, in general, deathly afraid of taking risks. Opinion is purely subjective though...

OK that statement just told me your a young dumb asian who's parents have money and bought you your first few cars. If you have money it's because you work in the family business...You read a few car magazine's and think you know something about cars. I started selling porsche and Audi's in 1985 and have sold BMW,Lexus,Cadillac, saab,Infiniti,Rolls Bentley.

These types of conversations are hilarious to me. You guys all sound like a bunch of elementary kids arguing about whose dad is stronger…lol. Like what you like. Dislike what you don’t like. All the anger and name calling is not called for. The fact is that all of the car makers exist because apparently there are people out there who like what they make pain and simple. The bell has rung. Recess is over. Everyone back to class…
