RENDERED SPECULATION: Is Porsche Ready To Tackle The Ferrari 458 Italia And McLaren MP4-12C?
Though many would argue that the 911 Turbo and Turbo S have done a damn good job taking on high-end exotica, it appears that Porsche may be thinking about getting a bit more in line with its rivals. How so, you ask? By introducing a mid-engined V8 supercar.

From what we've read this sounds like a Porsche Cayman that has been dabbling in the same activities as most Major League Baseball players.

Given that the Ferrari 458 Italia and McLaren MP4-12C boast over 550 ponies, speculation believes the Porsche would develop upwards of the 600 mark to keep ahead of its competitors.

Does this sound like a genius plan to you?

Has the 911 had its day? Porsche is working on a new V8-powered, mid-engine supercar designed to sit above the 911 but below the limited run and eye-wateringly expensive 918 Spyder, Auto Express has learned.

Set to become the new performance benchmark for Porsche’s regular range, the all-new model will be aimed squarely at the Ferrari 458 Italia and McLaren MP4-12C, and priced accordingly at around £170,000...

Question should be: "Is Porsche Ready To Tackle The Lexus LF-A?".

You know since the Lexus LF-A is the King of all Supercars, why compare the Porsche to lesser cars like the Ferrari and Mclaren?

Lexus sucks Porsche already did with several cars. One is the 997 GT2 RS, the 997 Turbo S and even the Carrera GT, which is a very old car. Lexus has been at it for a while with the LF-A and they still can't figure it out. Lexus needs to step it up.

wtf are you talking about? Lexus doesn't cut corners with the LFA stripping the interior and gutting the attention to details. Yet it still beats most the cars you're talking about around the 'Ring. With sh!tty tires. Try again though. This isn't an LFA competitor.

Anything that doesn't look like an egg is an improvement. So looks nice for a Porsche.

Porsche has just about run the 911 out as far as it can go. You can't put a V8 behind the rear axle and you can't put a rear-engined 600hp H6 into the hands of mere mortals without the car trying to kill the driver.

The obvious next line of attack for Porsche is the Cayman which has always been a better platform than the 911 and now maybe it will get its due.

thstone, on this one I also agree with you! Toyota with its LFA as well as Datsun with its GTR deserve some respect, for taking their products so far trying to beat the so called egg shape car who's being driving them crazy for years. Still so many IGNORANTS recall the Boxster and Cayman as a no original Porsches. This is mainly because of their lack of knowledge about the brand, as the 1948 "number 1" has exactly the same engine configuration as today's 987 models.
