Audi R4 axed, A2 delayed - report

According to a recent report, Audi has killed the highly-anticipated R4.

While nothing is official, Auto Motor and Sport says the model was axed because it would steal sales from the Audi TT and Porsche Boxster / Cayman. Furthermore, the Volkswagen Bluesport variant would likely have been too expensive to be competitive.

In related news, the Audi A2 revival has reportedly been delayed until 2016. Details are limited, but Volkswagen wants the car to be built on a group platform instead of a bespoke chassis.

With Porsche part of VAG now, we'll never see an Audi branded sports car again.

They (Audi) can do a Sport Coupe/Sport car. They should concentrate on a massed produced "Quattro Concept" platform. In reality this is the heart and soul of Audi. As nice as the midengined R8 and R8 V10 are they really are not and do not represent Audi. It's further transparent because this midengined platform is shared with Lamborghini. My wish list is one of 2 things.
1) Replace the R8 with a "Quattro Concept" platform utilizing the 5 cylinder turbo.
2) My more preferred wish is to make a mass produced longitudinal 5 cylinder platform at a lower cost to replace the TT.Use the "Quattro"
body style but elongate it to include 2 jump seats. The 5 cylinder can be sold in various states of tune similar to the TT, TTS,TTRS.
Make it affordable to the common man. It can still be a good performing sports GT car(which in essense is what the TT is anyway). It would compete against Porsche but now less directly because it's different engineered technology. Look "Quattro" is Audi's DNA. It would be foolish not to capitalize on this.
