Ford Says It Pay On Average $58 An Hour For Wages And Benefits

Ford Motor Co., set to enter contract talks with the United Auto Workers, said its U.S. labor costs are now $8 an hour higher than the mostly nonunion U.S. factories of foreign automakers such as Hyundai Motor Co.

Ford, on a website it posted last month, said it pays about $58 an hour in wages and benefits to its 40,600 U.S. hourly workers, $3 more than the automaker said last year. Labor costs average $50 an hour at the U.S. plants of international automakers such as Japan's Toyota Motor Corp. and South Korea's Hyundai, according to Ford.

Does the uaw still require janitorial and other contractible services to require full time with benefits hiring? That should be lowering the average...

($58/hr)*(40hr/wk)*(4wk/mth)*(12mth/yr)=$111,360 for a high school education. O_O that's a lot to be paying per worker.

About a 3rd of that $111,360 goes to pay insurance.

And what's the problem with someone with just a high-school education making that much money? It isn't the worker's fault. I mean if your company can't afford to pay wages like that, then maybe your company needs a union.

The more money that goes to the worker the better IMO. Or would you rather that a good amount of that $111,360 go to the CEO’s and shareholders?

I’ve yet to hear anyone here complain about the astronomical amount of money that the CEOs are making. It’s always the fellow employees that we fight against. Our brains are truly brain-washed if we lash out against another worker earning a decent salary, while at the same time ignoring the fact that a fraction of any CEO’s bonus, would give all the workers (high school grad or not) a big raise.

Lexsucks, one ceo at $17.9 million? or $3.41 billion to pay 283,000 the figure international below came up with. The CEO may make a lot, but his salary makes up half a percent of the Salary budget. To suggest that he should be limited in how much he makes is borderline communist, and is really small potatoes to worry about. What is more worrying is how a company can operate with such little margin yet still have adequate research money to stay competitive.

"To suggest that he should be limited in how much he makes is borderline communist"

- And to suggest how much a worker should make isn't? Why the Double Standard?

"What is more worrying is how a company can operate with such little margin yet still have adequate research money to stay competitive."

- Such a small margin? You're forgetting about profits. Rather than gouge the worker, why not use some of the profits for R&D? It's funny that whenever a company needs money, they always squeeze it out of already strapped worker, and never touch the profits.

It's not a double standard. Communist's believe in equality and sharing regardless of qualifications, by paying people more then they are worth you are inherently following communist lines of thinking.

Add two more weeks salary, Joe! 52 weeks in an American year! Canada maybe has less. ;) I figure two off for vacation!?

Still, (58 x 40) x 52 = $120,640

$120,640?

- Yeah... Anyone who makes that is a fat cat for sure. I'm sure they have garages filled with Veyrons and LF-A's.

To bad it's not a realistic take home figure. It's not that the union members are over paid because they fought for good wages and pay, fact is the rest of the country is underpaid very sad times when some of our fathers had a better standard of living then we do.

it's not a measure of how much a worker takes home, it's a measure of how much that employee is costing the company.

@LexSucks,

you mention some really good point I definitely have to agree with you about the employees making $100k+ a year and how it better than for the workers make the money than the CEO take all that money.

At least some people are making a good wage and not just the CEOs, not many people thrive with high school education, and good for them. What happened here on Autospies? Everyone is happy about the wage, this is good, you are all seeing the light, the CEOs are just a few people, I hate to see these people making so much! And no I am not a Communist, lol

Good point cigarguy, maybe profit sharing with half there up front wage up front would fix that? Then there interest in improving the profit would grow, my employees are mostly university students and I can tell you most of them can't think! The only thing I don't have to tell them is how to wipe there ass,lol

I don't care how much money they are making . First off, the govenment gets a huge ammount of that back in taxes , They are good for the economy as they are putting lots of money in circulation , They do not have to depend on health care handouts plus thay are working for a world company that is based in the United States. I could give more reasons but , they will get shot down by the GM haters anyway

Un-freaking-believable!!! The UAW are just killing the US automakers, and they just don't care. Why bite the hands that feed you? I just don't get it. Selfish bastards.
