SPY PHOTO: The first good look at the next BMW X5's interior

Dear 001,

I know you guys have had some awesome shots of the exterior of the next BMW X5 but I found the first good photo of the interior.

As you can see from the picture, iDrive has infiltrated the cabin of the new X5.

The gearshift lever looks kind of cool too.

And look how thick the steering wheel is!

Looks like it's a winner!

Have a great 4th!

Sam the man

Looks sleek. Surprised BMW lessened the dash over the NAV, may have probs with glare. Besides that I am sure wood will be in place of the current white sections of dash,

I am glad they smoothed out the iDrive hump. Its really ugly...now if you can get rid of iDrive all together.

There's a strong family resemblance to the X3 dash architecture, kind of morphed with the 5 Series. Let's hope they make it available sans iDrive...

Fully agree with negative comments regarding the iDrive. I'm happy that there is no glare-producing wood trim on the steering wheel. The iDrive must be a product of European thinking, i.e. deliberatetely making the product more complicated and difficult to use. I bought a Philips hard drive video recorder and it is menu driven; however, instead of a single menu there are 3 different menus and correspondingly 3 different tiny buttons to remember on the remote. My advice to all European product planners is: keep it simple stupid!

Not bad. I think it will look better when the titanium is replaced with BMW's dark poplar wood (or something similar). I somehow think that the nav will change b/c BMW has set all the other navs either above the dash in a pop-up or set into a glare-free box. I doubt they will change from this pattern - especially when this would cleary have a glare problem. Overall though, its a nice change. LOVE the steering wheel and gear shift.

Awful. Real cup holders maybe, but in a really bad spot close to the dash. There was nothing wrong with the old ones. Disproportionate steering wheel with a big ugly air bag hump. Crappy AC vents. The navigation screen is too exposed and will likely be impossible to see in the daylight. Passenger side dashboart is hideous. I don't see a glove compartment ?!??!

Not happy.

Not sure if BMW will use Titanium. It is very expensive, either aluminum or wood. The cupholders are a little too close to dash and shifter.
