Subaru Tribeca and Mazda6 will be discontinued
We have bad news for Subaru Tribeca and Mazda6 fans as both U.S.-built vehicles may soon get axed. Apparently, the reason is that Subaru and Mazda want to improve efficiency of U.S. assembly plants. According to Nikkan Kogyo business daily, Subaru decided to stop the development of a next-generation Tribeca

I never understood what was wrong with the 6 (meaning why wouldn't it sell more). I've always liked it for what it is.

This happened to the Mazda6 because they didn't give us the Euro model... they made a special North American model that albeit nice, is slower, larger and heavier.

VW are you listening? The Passat could start to suffer because of the same reasoning.

The first generation Mazda 6 and it's refresh was a great car. It was a perfect alternative to bloated competition like the Camry and Accord. And it offered some sport with a nice 3.0L V6 (granted a Ford engine, but tuned by Mazda). And they also offered a hot version MS6 with a turbo 4 and AWD. What's funny is more companies are switching to something similar that Mazda did a generation ago, offering fun turbo 4's and coupling them with AWD.

The new 6 looks like two different cars. The front end of an oversized RX-8 and the back end of a redesigned 6. Everything in the middle just screams "Hey I'm as big as an Accord now!" Unfortunately for Mazda their customer base was not looking for a Camry/Accord wannabe. They enjoyed their wagon, hatch, sedan, performance model just fine in it's trim and tight Euro-style.

Well, it's only the US version that's rumored to be canceled. I really hope that they start selling us the version the rest of the world gets. It's a much better car.

This situation where a lot of the automakers are involved due to the economic crisis, is like the chronicle of an announced death. Why? Automakers sacrifice the overall quality of their products in order to be able to maintain what they think or believe to be a competitive price. Who said that slashing quality of well known products is an effective and safe practice?
I remember my 1989 VW Jetta GLI, it was a really nice car, nice recaro seats, nice trim and finish, overall, a really nice car. Even though I have not seen the new Jetta, for me it's enough to see what other ppl here have to say about it. A complete different thing for what it used to be. I ask myself! Is it that top executives in the auto industry are blind or in other hand do they know what they are doing?
