Want A BMW 5-Series? Order In MAY And Get NAV FREE -- But WHY?
I don't know whether this is a good thing or a bad thing, but BMW is offering the F10 5-Series for sale with the navigation thrown in for the month of May.

That's sure to irk anyone who may have ordered a 5-Series on the last day of April. Wompwomp.

Although we typically have all the answers for you guys, we're gonna leave this one up to you:

Why would BMW give nav away for free?

Is this considered a discount or has BMW been taking notes from Oprah?

I was just visiting the website and on the home page it says that Nav is free in May on the 5 series. I am going to have to ask the dealer about this because he gave me that 1730.00 credit but nav is 1900.00.

i dont know why premium brands even have navigation systems as an option... i think all cars over 35k should have it standard.

Becuase they are in the business of making money - and "options" are exactly where these companies can really do that!!!

It's because of a chip shortage for non-nav cars due to the earthquake and tsunami. BMW needs all the 5's being ordered to have navigation whether you want it or not, hence the credit.

A common BMW practice to give option credits. The way it is structured is if you get a car with nav or P2 package the dealer must minus the invoice cost of navigation ($1730) off the sale price which makes lease rates and purchases more attractive. Available on the 528i and 535i and GT.

Also there are option credits on the 7-series (luxury seating and premium sound) and 335i coupe, sedan and convertible (auto transmission).

stupid comment agent00r. If some one ordered the vehicle in April, they still qualify for the navigation credit. Now, if you picked up your new 5 series the last day of april, then you missed out, but not ordered. Even if your vehicle comes in the month of june on order, you can still lock in the option credit with an approved application through BMWFS.

There's no need to be rude to OOR. He has posted some good points lately.

I think Agent 00R was only trying to point out here that the NAV credit is $1900 while he had only received $1700 from his salesman.

that's because you're receiving a credit for the cost of navigation, which is $1730, not for the MSRP of navigation, which is $1900. Thus it makes the cost/price of a car with navigation the same to the consumer as one without navigation. If you credited $1900 a car with navigation would actually cost the consumer $170 less than one without it, and that wouldn't make sense. And again it's because BMW needs as many 5-Series models as possible to have navigation on them because of a chip shortage for non-nav cars. I just ordered my own, the salesperson showed me the BMW bulletin. And since there's no such thing as a free lunch, BMW also raised the lease factors and interest rates to compensate for the fact that they're giving away nav (in other words, the price went down, the payments stayed the same).
