SPIED: Audi's R8 GT Spyder Caught On Camera For The FIRST Time

It wasn't too long ago that we got an early impression of the Audi R8 GT. Built in limited quantities and meant to be the hardcore R8 -- much like the Gallardo and its Superleggera variant -- I was left drooling all over my keyboard.

Then came the announcement: Audi will be following this up with a GT Spyder. Although some would say it defeats the purpose of the car, who cares. The Boxster Spyder is probably one of the coolest cars Porsche makes just because it's so focused.

Although last time all we had were some sketches, now we've got something better since the vehicle was spotted out during testing. We've got spy images.

@ the remark on the boxster spyder, porsche removed the power soft-top and its components; i would say that's one of the major weight saving parts of the spyder. i doubt audi did that for this r8.

I wish Audi would focus on weight and handling, which means they should make a super-light version of the V8 R8! Remove the power top mechanism, manual only (like the Boxster Spyder), focus on weight savings starting with the significantly lighter V8 over the V10, and this car would be seriously fun.

Coming from a former R8 4.2 guy, this is absurd. It wasn't the quickest car on the block despite its looks. I'll stick to my current sports ride the 911 Turbo any day of the week.
