SPIED: Does An Audi S7 Make Sense To YOU?

SPIED: Does An Audi S7 Make Sense To YOU?
When I got a really good look at the Audi A7, which is somewhat controversial, I confidently walked away knowing that at least one brand had really nailed the design of a 'fastback four door.'

Don't get me wrong, I have been astounded by how amazing the Porsche Panamera is -- clearly I am not alone as it is selling like hot cakes -- and its styling has grown on me. Its rear end still remains a tough sell though.

The A7, on the other hand, looks really slick.

And like most products from Audi these days, you better believe it is going to receive the "S" treatment.

Does this really make sense though for Volkswagen Auto Group? While I wager the S7 will be more like a sledgehammer and the Panamera has the precision of a scalpel, I wonder if they could erode each other's sales figures...

What say you, Spies?

With the reveal of Audi’s rakish A7 sports liftback in the summer of 2010, we knew it was only a matter of time before the Ingolstadt-based automaker enhanced the range with a top-spec model wearing the S badge and down the line, an even gutsier version with the firm’s famed RS moniker.

We’re still waiting for the RS7 but the development of the S7 appears to be reaching its final stages

I a pearl white or white one today from the side as it drive by it did NOT look attractive at all because it so freaking long from the side. It look really weird from the side.

I saw one at the local auto show. Looked fine, but not all that different from other Audi models, and not particularly "four door coupe-ish". To each his/her own, but the CLS and upcoming 6-Series Gran Coupe are better looking in my opinion.

but yes, an S7 makes sense to me. If Mercedes and BMW are going to have 400+ and 500+hp versions of their versions of the car I don't see why Audi shouldn't have one as well.

The A7 looks like its closest in design to the Panamera (if anything on the market). Panamera pulls off the look much better though. I would have much rather seen a proper 6 series competitor for the A7 (see A5 as to A4). I dont like this Audi at all but I'd take one in a heartbeat for image purposes...

(A5 is to A4 meaning A7 should have been real coupe version of A6)

I can't believe my eyes. From a readership that complains of every Audi looking like each other (and I'm not necessarily saying you're in that camp LACMAN) here you are saying that the A7 should have been a variation on the A6.

I saw my first one on the road a couple of days ago, in black, and it looked pretty impressive, though I agree with Lexus that it is freakishly long. That said, I think as S version, assuming a lowered stance and wider rubber, might mitigate that a bit. An RS7 would help even more.

lol Im assuming you know Alle that the A7 is already a variant of the A6 oh and while were at lets make the list of cars that share that same platform 1. a4, 2. a5, 3. a6 4. a7 5. a8 6. q5. Just longer shorter or more boring versions of each other. The A7 really should have been the A6 with a conventional trunk in person it really doesnt look like a 4 door coupe and its rear looks oddly proportioned. The Panameras wide stance makes it work but the A7 just looks like what a 5 GT would look like if ther roof easnt so high and thing still has better rear end. Audi was even to lazy to give it a different interior than the A6 yet they priced it more than the A6 for some reason its the same car. The CLS is completely different inside and out from teh e class, and the 5 GT has different interior and exterior styling than the 5 series....just lazy.

I don't see why an S7 would NOT make sense... Theres an S-Line for everything else...

I think the X6 is a better looking hatchback than the A/S7, and both look better than the Panamera, but from the driver's point of view, the Panamera is simply untouchable by the competition.

I'm a self-confessed AUDI Hater !!

However, the A7 is an amazing looking car in the flesh.

Does it make sense? Who gives a f**k?
