VIDEO: Drifting The 2011 BMW 1M At Its Media Launch
Reflecting on the press launch of the 2011 BMW 1M, I have to say it was a blast. There's no doubt about that. The amazing thing about the product is its ability to remain so comfortable on the road, yet you can put it on the track wearing its street tires. No modifications or tuning required, the 1M is a fine product out of the box.
The crazy thing is, there doesn't appear to be any compromises. The 1M remains a balanced track go'er that's nimble on its feet with plenty of torque on tap to power out of a braking zone. Though compared to the M3 it lacks that confidence-boosting, firmly planted feeling, I enjoyed the 1M on the track more since it seems it feels more tossable with its shorter wheelbase and lighter weight.

That X6 looks great in Red; the black 1M looks dwarfish - wheels too big for the body.
