Experts Say This Is The WORST Time To Buy A Hybrid
Despite the fact that the national average price of gasoline hit $4 a gallon last week, Jeff Bartlett, Consumer Reports deputy online automotive editor, says that now's the worst time to buy a hybrid vehicle. Why's that? Well, as Bartlett explains, many owners of gas-guzzling SUVs are ditching their rides in favor of more fuel-efficient vehicles. Therefore, the values of behemoth SUVs are declining, while prices for hybrids and other fuel-sipping vehicles are on the rise due to soaring demand.

Makes sense, if there was a shift from suv's, but are hybrids actually doing that well? I believe more efficient non hybrid cars are benefiting more. Add in the fact that the popular Mild hybrid is soon to be outshone by plug ins or ev's. I think it's best to wait and watch everyone else fuss over these vehicles. In the mean time, save tens of thousands of dollars and get a used fuel hog :)

Thread title is misleading....should be :"Thinking of dumping your gas guzzler for a Hybrid?: You'll lose your shirt."

I'd laugh if the price of gas dropped.

There is an error here, but everybody seems to have missed it. 009 actually called Consumer Reports "experts". Pulease. The truth is that it's always the perfect time to buy a hybrid, provided you actually want one. And that said, the price of a given hybrid, let's say a Prius is more or less fixed no matter what the demand (unless you plan to haggle or get suckered into paying over retail because you want the vehicle now and not in two or three weeks). It's the price of a used vehicle that is more fluid based on demand. So go right ahead and let that Excursion drink your pay cheque away from you and your dog (the only other regular passenger) because Consumer Reports tells you to keep it.

It's never too soon to get rid of any SUV.
