The pen V6 was one of wards ten best engines in the world. The Maserati version will be twin turbo @ 420 Hp. This engine has no oil filter element, no exhaust manifolds among other advanced items that Chrysler received many awards for.

No oil filter element? FAIL, especially if they turbocharge this thing.

lmao, so a $100k+ car will have a garbage Chrysler engine in it?? wow now that's gonna be a total joke!
On the other hand who cares about Maserati, they're just stinking Fiats!

The Pentastar engine has absolutely nothing in common with any Mercedes engine currently. Its a good engine with a fair amount of refinement. My concern is this. Marchionne is a numbers man. But if you are going to sell this as a Maserati then it better have more then just turbo power coming from it. Specifically is needs a different intake and exaust on top of multiair to distinguish itself from any other Pentastar engine. A normally aspirated 3.3 275 HP version is supposed to power Alfa Romeos. This engine has to at least sound Italian. I hope marchionne is understanding this. The Pentastar block is fine but it needs Italian internals.

Mercedes financed that engine with money they pillaged from Chrysler !!! The pen V6 was origonated before Diamler, It was called the Pheonix V6. Merc added a few goodies but nothing that great. It has a canister free oil filter element which is easily cleaned with no filter to the landfills. The reason Chrysler got into trouble is BECAUSE OF DIAMLER. It was Chrysler money that saved Mercs A**. BTW Diamler AG owns nothing of Chrysler. I have no problem with Mercedes Benz vehicles but I do have a problem with Diamler and its business practices. Screw em!

BFG,
Blazinboy is absolutely correct. In addition, the 300C and your vehicle ride on two generation old Mercedes E-class platforms and transmissions.
and thats why they are any good.

The current 5 speed merc trans is sloppy and lazy, that why Chrysler is dumping it and going with ZF.

That "current 5 speed merc trans" that you mention was actually discontinued 10 years ago in most Mercedes products and at that time they started putting it in Chrysler products. As old as it was, it was vastly superior to anything Chrysler had at the time. Same story with that 10 year old E class platform Chrysler is still using. I hope they do well now and I love the looks of the Challenger, but let face it, the previous 10-20 years has been shit.

Diamler had to give up all interest in Chrysler due to the lawsuit from Cerebus that went against Diamler for wrong doing when they got Chrysler.

Anybody think the Maserati salesman will be touting the Chrysler powerplant like they currently brag about the Ferrari powerplant?

Nough said

But how many NA aspirated 600 horsepower 600 lb-ft engines are out there? I suspect the next Viper will do alright with its 8.4 liter V10 with about as much power as most European exotics.

As for the Pentastar it's the only option for a 300+ horsepower V6 option for Alfa/Maserati.

blazinboy, Back in 1964 Tom Hoover and his Chrysler engineers developed an engine called a Hemi. It was 426 cubic inches and produced @630 Hp and dominated wherever it went to the point of being factored so other manufactures could compete. Today it has matured into a bit less than 500 cubic inches @8 litres and produces a little over 8000 hp thats 1000+ hp per litre also very close to its origonal engineering. As far as the current V10 its not what it produces from the factory its what it is capabile of. It has nothing in common with the truck V10 and it was origonally developed by Lamborgini [hope I spelled that correctly] When the origonal Viper as basic as it was with its PUSHROD V10 arrived dominated everything it competed in. Again it was factored to the point of not being able to compete. So far I believe it holds the third fastest track record at Nuberg with the top spots heled by cars twice is price.

I keep schooling this idiot 'blazinboy'. I guess I have to do it again. Chrysler doesnt use a Mercedes platform/chassis. Chrysler's fullsize rear wheel drive platform (LX 2005-10) used components in its rear suspension from the E class and geometry from the S class in its front suspension. THATS ALL! The only thing completely Daimler is the five speed auto, the ESP system, and the 4matic designed AWD. Again, in the words of your own: Sorry to burst your bubble.
