Rumor: Lincoln To Build A Sports Car
Ford Motor Co. is studying a proposal for the Lincoln’s next flagship to be a lightweight, midengine two-seater, according to a cover story of Road & Track's June print issue. For the Lincoln to effectively compete with its rivals in the luxury segment, it needs a sleek flagship that attracts a lot of attention from new buyers. One example is a

Lincoln isn't a good fit--but let's see what they come up. "New sports car" is a phase that is way too rare in today's automotive world.

Like that cadillac 2 seater they had?

Rebadges arent as a blatant copy as they were back in the days. With that said, Ford should just let Lincoln wrap the Mustang in their own sheetmetal just to see how the idea would do. Im not talking Fusion/MKS rebadge either. More like 300/Charger (in difference). They should spend the $$$ saved from developing a new sports car from the ground up and build a proper RWD flagship model. Just my 2cents!

...or scrap the sports car idea; take the Mustang platform and create a RWD V8 upscale sedan. MKS eco is decent, but compared to a RWD it is NOT as appealing. Who are they targeting, Acura customers?

Yeah, they still are blatant. look at the MKX and Edge. From the side you can't tell the difference. The only difference betwseen the escalade and a loaded tahoe is the side gill and the front grill and headlights, and minor interior differences, which is better than the last two generations which were identical other than the numbers on the second gen were different than the tahoe. The Lincoln Mark LT only had a different grill insert and some added reflectors to the tailgate that looked like cheap afterthoughts.

Sorry, meant that the numbers on the instrument cluster were written differently. Other than that the interiors were the same cheap thin leather and cheap tupperware rejected plastic that had more flex than a jeep with no sway bars.

DOA.

Lincoln can't even attract new customers with their interesting-looking but frankly uncompetitive lineup. A sports car would be a waste of time and resources.

And Lincoln has never produced a sports car. Creating one now won't attract younger clients.

Can't wait to see what it would look like. Ford Mo Co is now turning more attention to Lincoln to try and bring it to a top Tier luxury brand. Lincoln is supposed to have many new and heavily revised models in the coming years that will be more differentiated from their Ford counterparts. If their new volume selling models strike a good chord then I would love to see a sports car from them, but building more competitive volume sellers should be their main priority.

How can any of their cars be top tier. They are sloppy FWD fords. New chassis (RWD) are in need if they want to be competitive with cars other than buick and the Lexus ES

The only thing keeping Lincoln alive is naive, uneducated and mis-informed consumers who know nothing about cars, don't know any better.
