Kyle Busch clocked at 128 mph in a 45-mph zone in a Lexus LFA

per Al Pearce-Autoweek

NASCAR star Kyle Busch was ticketed on Tuesday afternoon for careless and reckless driving after a police officer reportedly clocked him at 128 mph in a 45-mph zone in Iredell County, N.C.

The officer stopped Busch, who was driving a yellow Lexus LFA sports car, between Troutman and Mooresville, N.C. Busch lives in Iredell County. His wife, Samantha, was a passenger.

Kyle Busch issued this statement on Tuesday: "Today, I received a traffic citation in Iredell County. I was test-driving a new sports car and I got carried away. I went beyond the speed I should have been going on a public road. I apologize to the public, my fans, sponsors and race teams for my lack of judgment. I take responsibility for my actions and I can assure you that something like this will never happen again. I thank the Iredell County Sheriff's Department and all law enforcement for the hard work they do every day to protect the public and to enforce the laws in a fair and equitable manner."

It's not likely that the incident will draw action from NASCAR, which recently fined Busch $25,000 and put him on probation for four races after he argues with Kevin Harvick on pit road after the Sprint Cup race at Darlington. The probation applied to the recent races at Dover and Charlotte, and includes this weekend's 600-mile Cup race at Charlotte and the June 5 race in Kansas.

"This is a matter Kyle will have to handle with the authorities in Iredell County," NASCAR spokesman Kerry Tharp said. "Based on what we know right now, this would not impact his status as a NASCAR driver."

Personally, I think this is awesome. Can't blame the dude for driving 125, he drives 200mph every weekend. I'm sure he was safer than most people realize. Speed limits are just another way the government makes money.

In America we need speed limits for the idiot drivers that have no clue how to drive or how to handle a car. We (most of us) are uneducated, un-trained and unfamiliar with vehicle dynamics. Why do you think American car makers sold us crap cars that were considerably of lower quality and lackluster at best and yet we bought them over the far superior and far better built, and much more efficient Japanese cars of the 80's and 90's. We are blind and naive. We think V8 is the god send of engines and think all of the V10 and V12 engines in these exotics are bigger and thats the excuse we give as to why they are faster than most of our v8's. I see it all the time, people saying of course he won, he has a v12, I only had a V8, blind to the fact that the V12 is actually smaller than the V8, which makes the whole quote of "there is no replacement for displacement a hypocrisy because the larger displacement ( 7.0 litre in the Z06 vette) gets beat by the 4.8l V10 or 6 litre V12. They are actually instead emulating that there is no replacement for number of cylinders, unless of course the V8 wins, then its back to good ol no replacement for displacement.
