VIDEO: Toyota's FT-86 Being Benchmarked Against The Toyota Supra?

VIDEO: Toyota's FT-86 Being Benchmarked Against The Toyota Supra?
Could it be? Why yes.

If you take a look at the video down below, you'll notice that a Toyota Supra guest stars in the FT-86's most recent spy videos. According to the spy photographer, SB Medien, the Supra is under the hands of the Toyota Motor Sales development team.

As you can see in the video, the Supra is running the track with the FT-86 project car. Given that, it is a pretty good possibility that Toyota is benchmarking or at least keeping the Supra's characteristics in mind while developing the FT.

With that said, where does that leave the upcoming FT-86? Is it a Celica replacement, a Supra replacement or neither?

SB Medien may call the forthcoming FT-86 a “Celica replacement,” but in this first video of the latest near-production prototype, the budget rear-drive coupe
nearly runs into a Supra which apparently belongs to the development team. The Supra shows up once more in the video’s ‘ring testing footage (about 1:55 in), suggesting again that it’s somehow involved in the testing or benchmarking process. How and why? Your speculation is as good as mine…

Depending on what model of Supra. If it's the twin-turbo 280hp JZA70, then I'd be impressed a 200 hp NA could keep up.

Why would you want to put camo over a spoiler that large?? Oh, wait! It makes it invisible, got it!!!

I would say this is more a aftermarket test than a manufacturer test. If you watch the movie to the end you will see a Sachs camper trailer there and the building they are using is not outfitted for manufacturer tests, it is just a small garage. So it is just my opinion but I would say this is more Toyota and the Aftermarket World getting a parts barage ready for the cars debut.

Proportions look nice, like the sound, keeping up with 300BHP Supra and that huge retractable spoiler all hint at serious compact sports car.
Bring it soon Toyota.

They don't have anything newer than a 15 year old car to test it against? LOL!!! Oh... I forgot that this is Toyota, A car company that hasn't built a decent performing Toyota product in about 15 years.

This clearly shows everyone how long Toyota has neglected the enthusiast market. I’m not sure how an enthusiast can like any of the current Toyota’s. For the past 15 years, Toyota has had one the most boring product lineups on the planet. I’m hoping that the FT-86 will change that.

If this car looks good with the camo off I will be surprised. That big wing looks dumb already though.
