VIDEO: Is Consumer Reports Even Skeptical Of The 2012 Honda Civic?
You know, the crowd at Consumer Reports -- although they're probably a nice group of guys -- just don't look at cars the same way an enthusiast does. Mostly they care about cupholders and how many golf clubs you can fit in the trunk.

They're great at some things but not exactly experts in our eyes in some departments. However, one automaker that seems to always do relatively well in their testing is Honda.

So, when they become a bit skeptical on the all-new 2012 Civic, you have to turn around and say "Whoa, whoa, whoa. Really?"

With that said, take a look at their initial impressions down below...

Understandably, Honda was conservative in redesigning the Civic line-up. After all, the Civic has long been near the top of the sales charts in the small sedan segment. Don’t want to mess with a winning formula… Still, given all of the fresh competition in this segment, some of Honda’s choices seem surprising.

For example, the 1.8-liter engine in the updated car seems downright old tech compared to the low-displacement turbo engines or the direct-injected engines offered by rivals. While most new small sedans count to “six” in their automatic gearboxes, the Civic sticks to five speeds...

Of course not. Consumer Reports worships Honda and they can willingly ignore engine fires and transmission sludge problems! ;-p

I hate to kick a company when they are down, but...the japanese are building dull, boring and ordinary cars, while the koreans are building fresh, hip, and trend setting cars. If Honda loses market share, heads are going to roll.

I would agree but Nissan has a lot nice cars even though they have a few crazy cars too.

I sure would like to know what the Honda designers are "smoking" these days.

I was very disappointed in seeing the new civic. The previous civic was revolutionary in styling compared to the one before it. This one see,s like just a minor refresh. And what is up with the tacky premium sound written on the stereo. That is just tacky and cheap. Reminds me of the older Fords.

Honda engines are falling behind w/o direct injection (Hyundai, Mazda, Ford, you name it). Honda's selective availability of 6-speed tranny is a joke too when most other competitiors have it on low-end models.

Once upon the time when Honda led in enginer technology.... zzzZZZzzzZZZ

Civic was once the benchmark for all small cars, now Ford and Hyundai and Chevy have stepped it up. Civic overrated and over priced.

I own a 2007 Civic, and I must agree that you are on to something here, you stated the facts.

You know I thought I saw 2012 Civic in my rearview mirror I purposly let the Civic get in front of me to see if it was a 2012, sadly it wasn't. The only way I can tell the new Civic apart is from the Rear that has the 1st generation Prius' tailights.
