Is The BMW 3-Series M Sport Package Worth The $? Does It Change The Car's Character THAT Much?

Is The BMW 3-Series M Sport Package Worth The $? Does It Change The Car's Character THAT Much?
Recently, Agent 001 went out and made another purchase: a BMW 335d. He considers it one of the best all arounders, from what I gather, and I can't really argue against it.

But when we started talking about the head-to-head differences of the M Sport and plain Jane Sport Package, we managed to disagree. That's probably because this Agent doesn't necessarily agree that the extra $1600 buckaroos is justified.

Checking out BMWNA's website, the only differences between the two packages really becomes this...

The M Sport gets:

1) Park Distance Control (rear only)
2) M steering wheel (+$100 for paddle shifters)
3) Anthracite headliner
4) Different wheels
5) Different front/rear valence

There are two ways to take this argument, so, we'll be gluttons and go for both.

-- Is the M Sport worth the extra $?
-- From a DESIGN perspective, does it really change the CHARACTER of the 3-Series?

@blazin

We're comparing the sport package to the M Sport package, which would represent a $1,600 difference.

In my case yes.

I would not have bought my 335d if it wasn't offered.

The standard sport package didn't have the sizzle I was looking for.

I like the bumpers and the black headliner on the M Sport, but I dislike losing PDC in front and REALLY dislike losing the heated steering wheel. You can get both of those with the regular sport. I also like the wheels better on the regular sport. Hopefully BMW fixes that stuff in the next generation -- spending extra to get the M Sport shouldn't force you to give up things.

On the sedan I would say no.

On the coupe? Absolutely.

Although I believe for 12'it will become the standard look....

2 things i hate about the m sport like the above post no heated steering wheel . i have a m3 and hate that i dont have the heated wheel. the second is the black rear diffuser. i like all one color (thats personal prefference). with that said i never had a heated steering wheel always wanted one and never had 2 tone in the rear so i dont know which way i would go.

The M Sport package is hands down the sexiest option for the 3 series. As a current owner, I wish it was available sooner. It would cost more than double the 1600 for me to make my car look like the m-sport (I have been seriously considering). So to pay the extra bucks up front is well justified.

M Sport package is worth it for the body kit alone. Wouldn't of got my 335d without it.

M Steering Wheel is the BEST. Anthracite headliner is sooo much nicer than standard. And you get lots of nice little touches like the "M' doorsills, dead pedal, shadowline window trim etc. And don't forget those gorgeous "M" wheels.

All these items cost a WHOLE lot more than the $1600 premium BMW charges over "Sport"

I think the BMW 3-Series with the M Sport package look really good. I saw a white one at work it was gorgeous.

Wow, the sheet even has a "global warming score".
Looks like the tree-hugging lefties have really taken over..
