The SPIES Are On YOUR Side: Saudi Women To Get Behind The Wheel June 17
Well, not everything is as good as it is here in the good 'ol U-S of A. Unfortunately for women in Saudi Arabia, it is against traditional customs for women to drive. Until now, that is.

Thanks to a newfound movement, Women2Drive, women are gaining signatures to submit a letter to King Abdullah. It will inform Abdullah that as of June 17, women will be in the driver's seat.

Keep this in mind, it is not accepted for women to travel alone. It's not against the law, however. Consider this: women cannot take public transportation, women have to hire taxis or expensive drivers. This is because women can't travel without a male relative.

Its a brave move by the Saudi women, I am sure they will face lots of resistant from the people who deny the right of women to drive. Many Saudi women drive when they are out of their country and have driving license from different countries including the USA. They can drive anywhere except their own country, where they need the privilege to drive most. Who oppose the right of women to drive thinks that women driving will put them at risk of abuse. What does this tell you about the behavior of men in that society?

I think Saudi women will be more at risk from reckless men drivers, so I would make the ban on those men instead of women who are usually adherent to traffic laws.

Its anecdotal that many Saudi women were given the chance to get a high level of education abroad, but when it comes to driving, doors are tightly closed. This is a strong example of contradiction !

I guess Saudi women had enough, and got sick from retro minds who think that they have a divine privilege to block freedom of others. I support you all the way, its your right and you have to get it.
