I rented one a year ago when I was in Italy. They're actually nice cars. I had a diesel engine (not sure of the power output) which was quite agile and refined. I'm not sure why people always diss these smaller European cars and their engines since they're more than adequate for spirited driving. The manual transmission was pretty smooth and the steering response wasn't bad either. The car felt pretty sporty even though it wasn't supposed to be sporty in any way.

Space-wise it was very roomy and comfortable. My wife and I drove around Italy for a week visiting historic landmarks and places of interest. We got to know the car pretty well. The gas mileage was also incredible.
