BMW Files For M2 Trademark And Considers Rebadging 1-Series As 2-Series
From time to time, BMW trademark filings provide clues on future BMW models. Our latest finding could be related to the recent speculation coming from both Autobild and
SCOTT26
. BMW is said to be considering launching a 2-series line comprising of the 2-series coupe (F22), the 2-series convertible (F23) and M-variants of these cars. These are essentially the next generation 1-series coupe and convertible, but renamed as the 2-series.

The 2 series is going to be the coupe and convertible versions of the 1 series similar to how the 5 series and 6 series are related.

BMW AG is not considering this. They came to this decision years ago. The 1 Series is the hatchback and the 2 Series will be the Coupe & Cabriolet (like bmwcs stated). Their cars have a 7 year lifecyle and they generally have a 7 year gestation period from talked about by the board of directors and approved to showroom.
So this is nothing new. The M2 was approved years ago for production. The filing is proof that car is probably coming after the swan song and success of the E82 1M.
