Dealers Marking Up Volt $20K Over Sticker - More Reports Surface Of Pocketed Tax Credits
Car sales may be in a slump, but the hybrid-electric Chevrolet Volts are hot, and that's leading to shortages — and in some cases extreme dealer markups.
Several dealerships, including at least one in California, have priced new Volts more than $20,000 above General Motors Co.'s suggested $41,000 retail tag. Others are selling the vehicles as used, claiming a $7,500 tax credit for themselves and leaving the eventual buyers ineligible.

I had 26 all between $45K and $41K. But then again I have about 30 Chevrolet dealers in my area as well.

So what was the point of this hybrid again? To be sold as a fleet vehicle?

Again, the Volt is NOT a hybrid. I'm no GM fanboy, but facts are facts. Its a true electric vehicle, and the ICE is only used to charge the battery, it never drives the wheels.
Its like when people pronounce the T in often. Drives me nutzo

I thought I was the only one that couldn't stand the Volt being called a hyrbid. It's a gas generator on wheels. Why this concept is hard to grasp is beyond me.

The gas engine can run the wheels=hybrid. Is is the same as a lot of current vehicles like the Prius? NO. Is it a hybrid? YES:
"The Volt is propelled by an electric motor with a peak output of 111 kW (149 hp) delivering 273 lb-ft (368 N-m) of torque. After the Volt battery has dropped to a predetermined threshold from full charge, a small naturally aspirated 1.4-liter 4-cylinder internal combustion engine (Opel's Family 0) with approximately 80 horsepower, burns premium gasoline to power a 55 kW (74 hp) generator to extend the Volt's range or when performance needs to be improved, the gas engine engages mechanically to assist propulsion directly."
Sounds just like a Prius with more range don't it?
