STUD or DUD? NO, It's NOT April Fools. These Are The Official Leaked Photos Of The 2012 BMW 1-Series

The 2012 BMW 1-Series has leaked to the web, ahead of its unveiling at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Looking more substantial than its predecessor, the model adopts a prominent front fascia that draws inspiration from the 5-Series GT and 7-Series. The rest of the car is an evolution of the previous model, but the overall design seems rather promising.

Since the car rides on a longer 2.69 meter (105.9 inch) wheelbase, the cabin is roomier and luggage capacity climbs by an additional 200 liters (7 cubic feet). Additional information is limited, but the interior has higher quality materials, an improved design, and a 6.5-inch (or optional 8.8-inch) iDrive display. Furthermore, option include a collision warning system, speed limit detection, and Internet connectivity.

Very similar to the renderings,It has a lot of nice smooth looking surfaces which i didnt expect. The front has a quirky design but thats BMW's style. Cant wait to see more pics.

At least you cant say it looks like a small 5 or 7 series. I like the grill and intakes...I think the lights will take a little getting used to.

Ugly. My most favorite BMW's got rust on 'em(sigh!) I hope that they can offer me a car that actually works for me someday.

The front is interesting. Every time a new car comes out everyone says they hate it, the a few months later they warm up to it. The same will happen here.

I think the "warm up to it" comment is spot-on...but shows how bad car design is these days. What ever happened to seeing a spy shot of a car and saying "HOLY CRAP I WANT THAT" instead of having to talk about getting used to the design.

????????????????????? I don't think people will 'warm' to this, the new 1er is original E65 7 Series ugly. Very surprised to see the mirror turn signals. Let's PRAY the new 3er doesn't look like this.

Don't like the grills at all...they actually look to big to me...just like the 7. I would never buy a 1 series so it really doesn't matter that much. I think BMW is losing it.

From the back, the only indication it is a BMW is the Roundel.
The front, though, I really love, especially the headlamps (promptly wears flak jacket). Even the overly wavy hood cover on new BMWs (caused by inner hood creases) doesn't look bad on this.

Interior a big leap from the old.

Exterior? Well, I think everyone's already commented on that.....

Front fascia is one of the ugliest i have ever seen. Interior is an improvement.

I never thought I'd say this but Yeah, bring back bangle, this is worse than any of his designs. Better yet, bring back the guy that designed the e34 5 series and the e30 3 series.

Did Fisher Price have a hand in designing this? It has an infantile look to it, to my eyes. But I suppose someone will like it.

@Steve,

You are right, though the designers will probably say "youthful", not "infantile" :)

It is the wide-eyed headlamps, relative to the compact body size. However, I think it is deliberate; it is being positioned as the youth of the BMW family, and you will often see this relativity on cars in this class - A3, Mini Cooper, Golf, etc.

I can say it looks slightly better in red compared to blk.

Major leak!. Interior Dash GREATLY improved. Obligatory Hofmeister Kink doesn't work on a hatch.

What the hack were they thinking? I love all BMW designs but WTF is this? I can't even look at it. Very disappointing.

I guess they are trying to appeal to a younger audience with the one series, I need to see more pics to decide if i like it or not.

I thought the current 1 series was ugly when it came out. I still do. No, I have not warmed up to it at all. Now we have this piece of design crap. It's even worse than I expected. But then again, it's not much of a surprise to me anyway.

I don't mind the high snout on modern European cars, but what kills the design here are the headlights. How ugly can they get?

Major dud.

Better then the current 1 series but that's not saying a whole lot. I actually like these news headlights better then the current ones.(The current ones seem like the car has an acne problem).Overall shape a bit bulbous. BMW needs to get back to the crisp straight lines of the 90's cars.I'm sure it will sell like hotcakes.
