Obama Calls Chrysler A "Victory", But Is It Really?

Obama Calls Chrysler A

As we mark the two-year anniversary of Chrysler's emergence from its government-sponsored bankruptcy reorganization this month, let's have the political truth squad join President Obama at the Jeep plant in Toledo, Ohio, today. Is this really something to celebrate? Like this?

First of all, Obama's ongoing political "victory lap" at various U.S. auto plants is getting a bit old -- and even bailout recipient Chrysler-Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne last week told CNBC this: "I am sorry I am being brash but when you owe money to people and you pay them back you shouldn't be celebrating. You just cut them a check and send them home and say thank you on your way out."

The Chrysler 1979 goverment loan (1.5 billion) was paid in full by 1983.
The US Treasury profited $350 million.
Is the US Treasury AKA Taxpayer doing better now?
Forget the victory lap.
Will somebody actually say how much money was profited if any out of this?
Or more likely will somebody actually say how much money was lost?

The profit came in the form of jobs saved.

I wouldn't think about it in term of profit but more on the line of how many jobs saved for the American families.

I know money makes the world turns but once in awhile lets think about the people and how much they gain in having a job to provide for their families.

IMHO!

Something Agent009 and his benefactors will never understand in their lifetime. Their vision is clouded with hatred for Obama and the Dems.

"Auto Insurance Clearance" will give you a break if you buy two or more types of insurance. You may also get a reduction if you have more than one vehicle insured with the same company.

It saved lots and lots of jobs.Considering what the Feds spent to save AIG this investment was a "drop in the bucket".

Phillip Nussel, a staffer who wrote the above editorial for automotivenews.com (Crain Publications), is apparently an unabashed Republican. I've noticed a great portion of Crain's Autoweek.com writers and commenters are also heavily pushing a right wing agenda: praise G.W. Bush, global warming isn't real, electric cars are hooey, etc.

Nussel went on to take one quote from Marchionne out of context and unknowingly make Sergio appear ungrateful. How does someone like Nussel live so long and remain so backwards?

Agent009 and his Mentors fail to understand that point. The connection between neurons is broken and I am afraid is irreversible.

Obama is taking a victory lap because he's campaigning.

How people were laid off because GM and Chrylser?

I know anyone that owns a Pontiac, Saturn or Hummer will think twice about getting another GM.

As for Chrysler, if I won a car I would sell it.

looks to me the jap cars are crap how many more weeks before they recall another car? They are averaging a new recall every three months now and you still believe in that garbage go ahead.

UAW No-one can top the amount of recalls from domestic automakers. How many million fords were recalled for ignition switches catching fire? So the Japanese finally had a few recalls, they still pale in comparison to Domestics, and If you really want to compare, how many recalls has Subaru have? Few to none. Domestic cars, while more appealing are still inferior. Thier interiors look great until you actually touch the surfaces, feel the hard, hollow plastics, and watch how the door panels bow and flex when you pull on the grab handles even slightly.

No, there are a lot of imbeciles out there and most of them are of the opinion that we should have let the manufacturing sector die.
The same set of Neanderthals that think it is fine to privatize social security or better yet think it is wrong of the Government to take care of the elderly in the form of Medicare and Medicaid.
These Neanderthals have no problem with nation building but would rather see their compatriots die of poverty. Same set of Neanderthals that claim to drink from the fountain of Jesus but are filled with hatred.Just like the Neanderthals they will fail to evolve and die.
The problem with this country is basically these clowns we have to share the country with.

Republicans just get over it you are out of touch with the world we live in and your brand of politics are destroying our nation. I see many comments with the name walmart in it well walmart is your creation and a template of how they want the rest of Americans workforce to be compensated.

Obama did the right thing to rescue the GM and Chrysler. And less anyone forgot, Ford took advantage of low government interest loans.

It's also funny that whenever the subject of American Unions come up how rabid some react, ready rag on and condemn. But these same bobble heads are all too ready, willing and delusional about accepting all the transplant auto manufacturers (BMW, Honda, Hyundai, Nissan, Toyota, Mercedes and VW) that have union workers building cars in their own home countries and yet not one word about condemning them for that?

Seems hyper hypocritical. Shame.

You know its interesting how many people are either against the auto bailout or say it's a tragedy that the Government had to do this.Let's see the French own a good portion of Renault and have for a number of yrs. Unlike the US they do dictate company policy.Other then dictating that CEO's should limit salaries and insisting that Chrysler come up with a 40 MPG car for Fiat to own more of Chrysler the Feds have not interferred very much. Now lets talk about the large banking insitutions in our country as well as AIG. First there is no figure as to how many dollars the Feds actually invested in AIG. The amount would make any money lent to the auto companies seem like about 5 cents. Then of course the Feds saved most of the large banking insitutions but did not regulate them properly. All those lending intitutions and investment firms still paid out the big bonuses to people in spite of being lent money by Feds. Yet the Fed seemed to be powerless to control these institutions. There was nothing wrong with forcing GM and Chrysler to restructure and they are better off for it. How have banks restructured? The only thing they have done is over tighten credit so that people with average credit cannot get loans. The trouble with the auto companies did not start our reseccesion, did not put more then 8 million people out of work, did not cause unemployed people to drop off the unemployment lists. Stop blaming the auto companies people. Go get yourself an enema and wake up. If your feel anger, rage or sadness talk to your banker. ITS ALL ABOUT THE BANKS AND FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS.WE ARE IN THIS ECONOMIC FIX BECAUSE OF THE BANKS,PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!

Long after Obama, long after us, they will speak of a time when cooler heads prevailed. When we saved the supply chain, when we saved all of the car companies including the transplants by saving the Big Three. Toyota and all the rest could not have made a thing here if there were no parts. Think earthquake in Japan but over here to a much greater affect. We have weathered the worst of this, be happy.
