DRIVEN: Is 001 Not The ONLY One Who Thinks The 2012 Audi A7 Is A GREAT Car?
For 2011, one car that caught Agent 001's attention was the 2012 Audi A7. 001 has gone as far as to say that it is the next halo car for Audi.

The difference is this car is actually attainable for a lot more people than a $100,000 plus two-seater coupe. Since our head honcho drove the A7 he has been saying it's great, it's fantastic, blah, blah, blah. A large part of me was skeptical.

Now the A7 is being reviewed by other automotive pundits and it seems that the buzz isn't bad. In fact, it's quite good. One of the few writers we look to for a trustworthy opinion is James R. Healey of USAToday. Unlike others, he is fair and balanced.

Before he delves into the car, he prefaces with this: "First, the bib, because there's going be some drooling here."

We guarantee one thing though, this isn't ALL a lovefest. Make sure to check out the FULL review by clicking "Read Article."

The Audi A7 is such a machine.

It starts at about $60,000, and the test car was about $69,000. It seats only four to give what Audi says is a sense of exclusivity. It pretty much demands premium gas. Clearly not a car for everyone.

But those not put off by the price would do well not to buy some other sport sedan until they have a little time in an A7...

No... but I wouldn't say you're in the majority.

You look to James R. Healey of USAToday for a trustworthy opinion? Unlike others he's fair and balanced? Do you even read his articles? "The 2011 Lexus CT 200h is a foxy, feisty take on the Prius," really?

A quick look at his reviews ( http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/reviews/healey/index.htm ) tells me that he likes almost every car he drives. Is there any car he doesn't like? Hardly objective.

Autospies is really desperate to make its point, isn't it? You guys are ridiculous.

@Quizz

Have you driven the CT200h?

And, did you even take that statement into context? He's saying it's a juiced-up Prius, which isn't saying much.

Healey points out the good and bad for every car, which is his job. You have to remember: "There's an ass for every seat."

The CT200h is NOT a juiced up Prius, it's actually SLOWER: from Edmund's review of the CT200h "The downside is leisurely acceleration; in our testing, the CT posted a 0-60 time of 10.4 seconds, 0.3 second slower than the already pokey Prius."

http://www.edmunds.com/lexus/ct-200h/2011/?mktcat=ct-200h-ratings-634805&kw=ct+200h+reviews&mktid=ga61145874&msite=w

So, no, I have absolutely ZERO interest in test driving a CT200h after reading "balanced" reviews that indicate it's even slower than the Prius, and my sister has the current generation Prius so I can extrapolate a pretty accurate idea of how it would drive based on these sort of comparisons.

@Quizz

You have to understand the difference in how it feels on the road opposed to a 0-60 time.

It's a hybrid. Performance isn't the name of the game and no other hybrid drives as sporty as the CT200h.

A friend of mine who worked as a tech on Audi and now at BMW said they are all just as bad. Audi/VW just has a worse rep.

I took one for a drive because I have to replace my S-Class soon. Rides very well and it has a simply superb interior, and combined with good looks, it would be at the top of my short-list. But it's not, purely because it doesn't have a middle rear seat. It's definitely wide and long enough to have a third seat, but for people who have 3 children and a wife to drive around, Audi once again have lost a potential sale.

The salesperson should have told you about the A6 that will arrive in a week or so. The exact car in sedan 5 seater form.
