Anti-Rollover Technology Now Makes SUVs Safe Than Cars In A Crash
Sport utility vehicles are now safer than cars of the same weight, thanks to anti-rollover technology.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety said in a report issued today SUVs in the 2006-09 model years had a driver fatality rate half that of cars.

"The rollover risk in SUVs used to outweigh their size/weight advantage, but that's no longer the case," thanks to electronic stability control, said Anne McCartt, the institute's senior vice president for research. "Pound for pound, SUVs have lower death rates."

Yes, Lets Extrapolate.

Panamera Turbo Faster and Better Handler than Cayenne Turbo

Bentley SuperSports Faster and Better Handler than X6m {Bentley weighs more}

I promise you that if you ever find yourself on a negative camber curve travelling 20-40mph faster than you should be you would WISH you were in a car as opposed to an SUV.

BTW for all the clowns telling me about Cayenne and X6m Skid Pad and Slalom times.

We are not denying the fact that Porsche and BMW have performed miracles with their Drivetrains and Transmissions to get them to turn these Elephants into Ballerinas.

However the VAST MAJORITY of the technology is PHYSICAL not Software related like "Electronic Stability Control". Cayenne Floor is almost as low as most Sedans at speeds exceeding 40mph and you can only temporarily raise it, X6m you cannot even raise, it is just always low.

The Track on both vehicles is Very Wide, The Engineering is focussed on the vehicle being as dynamic as possible and the Software are additional backup.

Hence it is totally different to the software installed in an Explorer or Rendezvouz for "Stability Control". How can anybody believe that an Explorer is more stable than a 5 series or Even a 7 Series is frightening.

You guys really are perfect fodder for Advertising.

I got an interesting email from an attorney about ten years ago when I ran a car club. He claimed that he was “a former trial lawyer” and that automakers could make sports cars pull “well in excess” of 1 lateral G’s but refused to take on the “product liability risk.” I’m not sure how accurate any of it is, and why it is a risk for an automaker, but when you look at the numbers the Cayenne puts out and compare to their sports cars it does seem like something is fishy. Also if there is some kind of “gentleman’s agreement” the GTR with its hefty weight and great numbers is perhaps the first car to defy it.
