Chrysler may provide twin-turbo Pentastar V6 engine to Maserati
There’s a rumor that the Maserati Gran Turismo will use a twin-turbocharged version of the heavily awarded Pentastar V6. An Inside Line report states that the top executives at Fiat and Chrysler are considering this engine to replace the older Ferrari engines and platforms that have been used in Maserati’s cars for years.

I imagine they're mostly just using the engine block with pretty much everything bolted onto it replaced by Maserati, which is sort of ok... I guess. But it certainly doesn't sound as good as saying you've got a Ferrari engine in it.

I'm not saying that the Pentastar V6 is a bad engine, but in this price range image is pretty dang important. Let's be honest, with regard to image there's no contest between Chrysler and Ferrari. Totally different leagues.

The pen V6 had extensive R&D and was developed for many applications. It is classified as a "world engine". It was one of Wards 10 best engines in the world. It has received many awards for forward thinking. I believe in time it will prove itself. The twin turbo puts out 430 bhp.

A good point made with the "world engine" tag. Here is another world engine, Mitsubishi's EVO 2.0L is based on a "world engine" design...with...thats right, Hyundai and Chrysler.

As much as I despise Chrysler for its past 40 years of junk (Vipers and Jeeps not withstanding). The GEMA World engines have been really well developed. Chrysler knows how to make a really good engine when it actually contributes time and effort to the development instead of phoning it in.

I'm pretty sure Maserati can do well without a Chrysler Pentastar or porn-star engine.

If you look at the Pentastar from a engineering/technology standpoint and NOT from an "its a Chrysler engine" standpoint, you (and everyone else without a valid argument pertaining to the Pentastar motor) may be surprised.

Fiat has done this before. With Alfa Romeo they did the V6 engine with the GM block from Holden and with Alfa internals. I would hope that they consider this for Maserati. I realize that Marchionne is into economies of scale(or should I say large scale), however it is important that the character of an Italian engine be in tacked. They need to develope this engine so it sounds like an Italian engine.
